Sep 2025: I am a Level 7 contributor on Google and decided to check out this Japanese restaurant. I think it's Chinese-owned, since I heard the staff speaking in Taiwanese accented Mandarin.
The menu needs significant improvements. There were no photos of how the bento box looks like. Thinking that it might be the same as Shyun in Carnegie, I went for a salmon🐟 bento box. There were different types of salmon but there's no description of how the salmon will be prepared. I decided to surprise myself with Tobiko salmon. I was hoping that it would be pan fried salmon with tobiko sprinkled on it.
When the food was served, I was utterly dismayed with the bento box which was priced at $19.50. There were diced salmon mixed with the sea urchin eggs, dressed in a Japanese salad dressing which can be found in many Asian groceries. In a nutshell, there was NOTHING SPECIAL about the dish at that price point. The salad was also dressed in the same dressing.
There were no pieces of sushi, nor miso soup. This is a lesson learnt for trusting poorly described menu.
Overall, the taste is ordinary. As noted in other reviews, the staff is not enthusiastic. I wanted to ask more about the menu but he gave the impression that he only wanted to take the orders. Presumably, they wanted to continue watching the Chinese show on their mobile or tablet, which was playing in the background.
The layout of the restaurant is also poor. Just a few tables set for 4 customers. There was not much ventilation inside the restaurant and you can smell the cooking oil.
In case the boss reads Chinese, here is the...
Read moreMr O-Sushi is a bit more of a Mr O-No-Sushi. The food was not great at all. The place looks nice aesthetically, as much as it is tucked in a backstreet against a private carpark and there were zero customers dining in or taking away at 630pm on a Thursday night.
The Chicken Katsu Curry Bowl was just a few, very thin, over fried and chewy pieces of chicken. Definitely not a thick juicy schnitzel.. there was too much rice in proportion and not enough sauce.
The Veggie Tempura Bowl says green beans, Japanese pumpkin, eggplant and Japanese sweet potatoes .. i received 3 green beans, a slither of capsicum, a very thin slice of pumpkin, a slice of potato and potentially a small slice of sweet potato. Definitely no egg plant. Salad was fresh but not much of a meal here.
The Sashimi Salmon Bowl shows a dozen glossy slices of salmon sashimi.. yet again, it was salmon sashimi but diced into tiny cubes and only maybe a handful, then stacks of rice and some salad.. an ok entree perhaps but it's also meant to be a main meal.
The Aburi BBQ Salmon Bowl.. again, great marketing but the salmon slices are very thin, not thick like the menu, so there isn't much substance here too. Taste is ok but amongst the rice and salad you wonder if it's really a salad with a side of salmon.
I'm all for giving new places a go but definitely won't be back here anytime...
Read moreWe came by on the opening week and they were very very busy. Order took over 20 mins for our meal to arrive and we saw the customers keep coming through so we thought that was a good sign.
Not much of a place to dine in, there are benches around the edges but I felt like I was in a zoo as I was being watched by either people waiting to pick up their meals or waiting to order. We did notice that some take away orders were mixed up and disappointed to hear that they were out of some food items - this is at 6pm!
Food was presented well but let down by temperature as things like the carrot chunks in the katsu curry felt fridge cold in the middle.
We are hoping that they would iron out some of the opening week issues as we can see the potential for this place doing very well if they address the disorganisation. We are looking forward to giving them a second chance in a few weeks time and giving them a...
