Nasi + Mi — Restaurant in Melbourne

Edit: So we have been back a few times now and it is so good. The service is great, the food is delicious and there is no signs of the issues I raised below. I'm genuinely happy they have pulled it together. Happy to give this restaurant 5 stars now. I recommend anyone to give it a go.

Our first visit to this restaurant was a real mixed bag. Some really good points and some terrible points.

First, the good. The food is delicious. Tasty, although a lot of MSG, as we were so thirsty for the rest of the night.

The bad and there are so many. When we arrived, they only cleaned tables to fit us in, and that was consistent for the time we were there. Tables were left dirty with dishes until a customer needed the table. After waiting for a long time we got water and glasses delivered to the table. All the glasses were dirty and had a white watery film on them. No napkins, dishes, or utensils were derived to the table. We had to get our own, as did 4 other tables around us, even if food had been delivered. The food took forever to arrive after ordering. Nearly an hour. We saw 2 customers cancel their orders and leave. The male waiter was overwhelmed and not getting much if any support from the 2 female waiters. He did a good job and kept saying sorry for delays. We had rice arrive at the table way before any food and was cold by the time we got our food. We returned it to get fresh rice. They kept delivering food to the wrong table.

Overall, the front of house is a disaster. Being a new restaurant, you can understand to a point, but they are missing the basics. Would we go back, yes, probably but not any time soon. They need to fix the issues above. It would be a shame if they didn't succeed, but with so much opposition around them, if they don't streamline things, the other restaurants will take their business. For us, the food saved the visit. Good luck to them...

We dropped by here around midday on a Sunday for lunch and the venue was quite busy with most seats inside taken but most of the outdoor area was free... Given it was a bit chilly we sat inside.

The staff were attentive and courteous with our orders taken quickly. We noted that outside there was a full menu shown however we were only provided the lunchtime menu without the option to order from the full menu... Not sure if this was intentional or an oversight though... It would have been nice to have ordered an entree but there were plenty of rice, noodle and Laksa dishes available.

We ordered salty fish and chicken fried rice, chicken Laksa and beef Nasi lemak.

My wife's chicken Laksa came out within 10 minutes and was quite tasty.

My salty fish and chicken fried rice came out 5 minutes later. I found mine ok, the chicken pieces were a bit gristly though.

My son's Nasi lemak took quite a while. 10 minutes after my dish came out I had to ask a staff member about it as my wife and I were both finished with our meals... Eventually it came out after about 20 minutes after our second dish came out.

The dish was tasty, but it seems the egg was cold so obviously grabbed from the fridge and not re-heated properly. The fact that it took close to 40 minutes after ordering and the large gap between 3 meals was a let down for the experience hence the 3 stars... It would have been better if we were informed of the delay much sooner so we could have asked for an...

Sunday Linner (late lunch/early dinner) at Nasi + Mi was delicious!! Firstly, the big one: the staff there were so damn adorable fussing over our dog, so that alone would have been enough to win us over. The two girls who came out and hung with Milo for a good 5 mins were so cute and sweet to him. We’re suckers for our dog so you’re always a winner if you’re good to our boy lol!!

But now to the food: we used to go to this place near to us that had the best ever Malaysian chicken curry and sizzling steak. But they closed down about a year ago without notice and I’ve been trying to replicate them both but I just can’t get it. If you had those meals, trust me, you’d be obsessed with them too. To know you’ll never taste them again absolutely sucks!!

Then we found Nasi + Mi. They make the Malaysian Chicken Curry and the sizzling beef the same as the old place we frequented!!! You don’t understand what a big deal this is! And you know what? It tastes cleaner and is served up so much nicer. And of course, the service rocks!!
