Oh Dumplings—a name that promises culinary delight but delivers an experience more akin to a laboratory experiment gone awry. Allow me to expound upon the less-than-stellar dining experience I endured, which, quite frankly, left my mood and digestive system in disarray, like a mismatched equation.
I have, over the years, cultivated a refined palate for Chinese takeout, having sampled the culinary offerings from various establishments, each with varying degrees of success. But, alas, Oh Dumplings has earned the distinction of being the least impressive of them all. I placed my standard order—spring rolls, as I have meticulously calculated to be a safe and universally pleasing option, followed by Kung Pao chicken with rice and, as I always specify, extra peanuts. Simple, yes? But therein lay the conundrum.
Imagine my shock when my Kung Pao chicken arrived, not with the customary and delightful array of peanuts, but with an alarming and excessive surplus of chilis. And when I say excessive, I mean the kind of quantity that would make a botanist tremble in horror. The experience was akin to stepping into a chemistry lab where the chef had decided to conduct a personal experiment in spice intensity. My reaction was immediate: each spoonful required an excruciating, frantic removal of the offending chilis—an exercise in patience and perseverance I had not bargained for on my lunch break. Not only did this disrupt my eating rhythm, but it also rendered the meal utterly unenjoyable.
One might ask, "Ramanan, why didn’t you simply return the dish?" Ah, well, returning food in a public setting is a complex social interaction fraught with the risk of social faux pas, and I, being the intellectual I am, would rather endure the fiery torment of the chilis than engage in such a display of social awkwardness.
To sum up, this dining experience was a cacophony of disappointment and discomfort. The Kung Pao chicken, intended to be a balanced blend of flavors, was overshadowed by a preposterous amount of chilis, leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth , both literally and figuratively. The spring rolls, while relatively safe, could hardly redeem the abysmal rest of the meal.
Oh Dumplings, I had hoped for an experience akin to the simple joys of eating a balanced, flavorful dish, but instead, you provided a culinary mishap that left me questioning the very principles of takeout. Two stars—one for the spring rolls, and one for the rice, which, unlike the rest of the meal, was...
Read moreI’ve always enjoyed visiting this place, but unfortunately, my recent experience was very disappointing. There is a new staff member—an individual of Chinese background wearing glasses—whose English is quite limited. However, what’s more concerning is her consistently rude behavior toward customers.
While dining with a friend today, we were shocked by how she treated us and others. She was dismissive, unprofessional, and even used insulting language, calling people “stupid.” Regardless of how good the food may be, poor service like this completely ruins the dining experience.
It’s disheartening to encounter such disrespectful service, especially in Australia where English is the primary language and respectful customer service is expected. I strongly urge management to train staff in both basic communication and professional conduct. No one should be subjected to rudeness or vulgar language when visiting a restaurant.
Unfortunately, I will not be returning, and I hope this feedback is...
Read moreI am always fine with the food here although it always takes a long time to be served. However, just today a male staff was very rude when we came there and asked if our order was ready. He didn’t even take a look at our order or name, and just said it’s not ready. No one followed up us again and we asked him again if ours was ready or not since we ordered a single chicken ribs with rice. And he again said not ready until we told him we only ordered one, and he took a plastic bag containing our order been sitting there since we had arrived cause our app said it was already ready to be picked up.
The male staff should never handle in front of house, he was rude, not accommodating, or...
