We came here for dinner last night and ordered the pad seeu, Tom kha Gai, pad kee mao and other entrees. If it wasn’t for the superb and friendly staff, my rating for this restaurant would sadly be 1.
The pad kee mao resembled something closer to Italian pasta with a sauce that tasted like a mix of Korean “Gochujang” and something else not thai. Not authentic and far from the targeted taste of our usual enjoyment of the dish. Definitely not worth $17.
Similarly, the Tom ka Gai was a preparation of an off the shelf “Penta tom yum paste” with a splash of coconut milk. As someone who frequently uses this at home to make instant Tom yum soups, the use of the paste was evident especially the overly soured preserved bottle taste. Again not worth a $15 bill.
This spot has a potential to be an authentic Thai restaurant offering a large array of Thai food but this will take some serious attention towards their need to foster a reputation for only serving Thai tastes made from fresh and natural ingredients instead of the instant preservative supermarket kind that comes out of “arranging” pre-made flavours (this is not thai gastronomy at all).
Looking forward to book a seat at the table when that happens, but for the meantime, Thai Town securely remains our preferred Thai food destination in...
Read moreOn the seafood and eat it diet? Then you're in luck! With nearly the entirety of their menu under $20, the food is affordable with generous portion sizes, plenty of variety and was great tasting.
I loved that they have their base sauces and you can choose a protein with the basics included but only a couple of extra dollars for some more premium choices.
Skeptical at first, I couldn't believe how well fed we were for under $100, even after ordering their two most expensive seafood dishes. Dining for 2, this was more of a meal for three.
The Mixed Entree Plate is a great place to start for a little bit of everything. And the Mama's Tom Yum Hot Pot is their signature dish for good reason. It was loaded with fresh prawns, calamari, pork and springy instant noods. Soup based and not cream based, it was tangy yet sweet and it was delicious.
The Stir Fried Soft Shell Crab was loaded and that thick curry sauce was rich but not heavy and absolutely moorish.
It's not the spiciest of Thai feasts and you do have to pay for takeaway boxes which I'm against but otherwise a fantastic meal in the...
