A delightful place to have a meal. This was my second time at the restaurant. It was such a lovely place, I could not wait to tell my friends about it and have breakfast together there. I made a booking. I was told I could have a 9.15 booking or it would have to be 10.30. There was NO mention that we could only be there for 1 hr . We met our friends there and had a chat for a few minutes. The waitress approached and quite bluntly asked us to order. That was ok , so When we ordered , we were told we only had 35 minutes left before we had to leave!!!!!!! The meals came quickly. The food was very nice, However, the water bottle remained empty after we filled our glasses. No offer of more water, was made. As we were eating , our coffee arrived and the empty bottle remained. My husband asked for sugar , and the young abrupt waitress appeared next to him , shoved two sachets of sugar towards him and asked abruptly 1 or 2 . It was so rude the way she offered them, and we just looked at each other in dismay. As no one had gathered the plates , we stacked them , and then the owner who was standing close by , quickly took them for us. Then , Once again we were told that our time was up.. I cut in and said , ok, ok , we understand thank you!!!!!!
What I don’t understand is, The cafe was all but empty, and we were virtually told to GET OUT , without them actually saying those words. What a shame, it was a lovely catch up with friends that was consistently interrupted by clock watching staff that were so focussed on getting us out of there , really before we even sat down. Their whole purpose was totally focused on us ordering , stop talking, drink up , shut up and get out! I really enjoyed the atmosphere there, but I’m not sure I will go back, if they continue to have time ...
Read moreUnfortunately we had quite an upsetting experience at One Pear Tree. We took my elderly grandmother here for a birthday lunch last week, upon arrival the only tables available in the front courtyard was 2 square tables and the long bench (which isn’t suitable for an elderly person with disability’s as there is no backrest and you have to step over the chair to sit down due to the poor design). As there were 4 ladies crammed onto 1 of the square tables we thought nothing of moving two of the square tables together for 4 of us so that my grandmother could have some space for her walker. May I add that we also waited sometime for someone to seat us but since no one came we assumed we could sit wherever. I went inside to have a look at the display cabinet, when I overheard the staff talking about my mother and grandmother, 1 said “did anyone tell those ladies they could move the tables” which another replied with “want me to go rip them a new one” whilst a male employee responded “let me know if you need some muscle power”. After letting the staff know we overhead them we got an insincere apology from the waitress and then had to weave our way around the back of the cafe over grass and gravel with our elderly grandmother and her walking frame. Once seated the staff would barely look at us. If it was not our Nans birthday we would have left. Needless to say we will never return to One Pear Tree after this disgusting behaviour. The only redeeming quality was the our drinks were given free of charge, however this does mask the unpleasant experience we had. We would have had no issue with moving, but there was no sense to it and the staff that were working this day were unprofessional at a minimum. Not usually one to...
