Not at all impressed. Tried here for lunch as place across the road was closed. Extremely rude & unpleasant staff - after waiting for 5 minutes at counter (because guy decided washing dishes was important then serving us) was told us they were busy and upon inquiring (as we had somewhere to be/deadline) was told food would take '15 minutes'. Our entree arrived after 15 minutes, but then 50 minutes later (and about 20 minutes after finishing entree) our main soups had still not arrived. We asked where food was - zero apology, and it appears they decided to serve what appeared to be exactly our soups to neighbouring table which had people who arrived well after us but seemed to be their friends (one of them was walking in and out of kitchen). Eventually another 10 minutes later and only 1 of our 2 soups arrived - I asked where other one was, got a shrug and a grunt. 5 minutes later other soup still hadn't arrived and by this point was very annoyed as we had to leave very shortly. Staff member comes over with $20 note and puts it on the table like it's actually acceptable behaviour to keep us waiting (now 1 hour) and then refund money for half the food. At the point we'd had enough (and had to leave) so I went up to the counter and demanded refund for both soups. Again, staff member (and another who appeared to be the older boss) completely unapologetic - acted like they were doing us favor letting us be there. Apart from the rubbish service and lack of ability to bring food in reasonable time, other complaint was the food was just totally bland and ordinary. We eat a lot of Vietnamese food, go to Springvale/etc regularly (and to Vietnam too). Maybe it's just completely dumbed down for westerners but they seemed to not understand you need actual herbs/flavor/spices in food. Anyhow we won't ever be back - try the alternate place across the road though they at least serve some decent food and are able to not be rude. Looking at their responses to the other negative reviews here I bet the owner will reply and try to 'blame the customer' instead of any acknowledgement - that's always a very clear sign of terrible customer service backed up by poor attitude / and no intention...
Read moreYesterday I found myself in my old stomping grounds of Cheltenham. I a touch hungry, and found myself wandering Charman road for some suitable sustenance.
Charman road (and surrounds) is definitely not without a variety of eateries, of which most I’ve tried.
Peaberries I hadn’t been to in quite a while soo thought I’d give it a shot. If you’re after great service and good coffee, this is the place for you.
Old school, they even have the paper to read whilst you drink and eat their wares. Their menu and refrigerator case house a good variety of delicious looking foods. I chose on this day to have the bacon and egg roll alongside my latte.
The latte, smooth, creamy, nutty with just a touch of bitterness was quite pleasing, I would go back for the coffee alone.
Unfortunately I found the e n b roll a little lacking.. though simple in taste I can be, 2 eggs and 3 rashers of somewhat bland bacon were served on a roll which didn’t quite meet the ciabatta brief.. I’m not sure where they purchased the rolls, but it mocked a true ciabatta, having none of the chew and crust that one desires from said roll.
I will be back next I’m in Cheltenham for coffee, not completely sold on the e n b roll, but there’s always a second chance.
Really good coffee, roll a Mis under $20 for both, which in this now trendy suburb...
Read moreThere are quite a few cafes along the shopping strip on Charman Road, near Cheltenham Railway Station so it can be a bit of hit and miss for someone new to the area looking for a good coffee and bite to eat. My friend and I were faced with this decision on Sunday when in Cheltenham. We chose Peaberry's Cafe. It was a great choice.
The coffee was perfect, the cafe was very clean and the staff was super friendly and provided us newcomers with excellent service. As well as this, as you'll see in my photos here, Peaberry's is kid and dog friendly. Next time will try breakfast or brunch. Highly recommended.
Remember to pickup a Peaberry Loyalty card at the counter when ordering your coffee and enjoy your 10th coffee on the house!
I'm sorry that I didn't have my work camera with me for better...
