Very, very good pastries that change each month so there’s constantly new ones to try with staples like pain au chocolat and regular croissant (they look delicious and like you could eat them daily without getting sick of them). They also make and sell bread loaves, but didn’t try those. Did try some delicious choc chip cookies with salt, they were pretty tasty. They do Axil coffee, which isn’t strong, but does the job and a safe staple coffee. Pricing: standard croissant is $5.50, which seems reasonable whereas my flavour of the month danish was $7.50. The shop is basically a walk-in with one chair and a couple of tables, so you’re better off grabbing what you’re craving and heading home to enjoy them.

Penny for Pound - CRUFFIN $6.5 - PLAIN CROISSANT $4.5 🄐 - ALMOND CROISSANT $6 - CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT CROISSANT $7 šŸ« Their pastries utterly deserve a 5 out of 5. First of all, very reasonably priced considering their portion and quality. Secondly, the texture was super flakey and that was one of the most buttery croissants I’ve tasted. Thirdly, the almond croissant had the perfect amount of sweetness. I noticed it had a layer of crumble on top adding that extra buttery crunch to it. Fourthly, the cruffin had a textbook perfect texture. I guess you can judge by the photo. The only downside was not enough custard. Overall, the best patisserie I have tried in Melbourne so far.

Penny For Pound is a tiny bakery behind Mayday, selling the most amazing croissants, doughnuts, cruffins, and mini cakes and tarts. The smell is intoxicating and it is a sight to behold. You definitely have to get in early as the baked goods sell out quick. The strawberry cheesecake croissant is my all-time favourite here. Soft, flaky pastry, with a creamy cheesecake filling that ooze out with every bite. Coffee comes courtesy of Mayday, and there’s limited seating. Service is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and I highly recommend a visit here if you haven’t already.

I visted last Saturday with my husband and 2 children. The first order I asked for was a large cappuccino. The young lady serving told me that they only provide 1 size. I happily accepted and proceeded to order the rest of my drinks, a hot chocolate, a babyccino and some food. The hot chocoalate, babyccino and food arrived. We noticed that the cappuccion was not arriving whilst other were getting their drinks. No big deal, one would thing. I respectfully and kindly approached the barister to enquire about whether the order had been forgotten. The barister told us that it was not ordered and that he would put it through. Again one would think that this was resolved in a mutually respectul manner but NO. The lady who was supposed to take the order, rudely attacked me, suggesting that she had asked me 3 times whether I wanted a cappuccino and I had apparently said no. I'm not quite sure who this young lady was having this converstaion with, but it was certainly not me. The conversation that was had between myself and the stafff member who took my order, does not require a high, average or even low IQ to follow, where we had a discussion about there being only one size to their coffee. I am unsure how this lady then seen to think I cancelled the only adult coffee I ordered and seemingly said No 3 times, after apparently being asked 3 times, as her clain suggests. Secondly I am unsure why this young lady felt a need to attack me, when clealy there was a missunderstanding that could have been easily reolved. This is really poor customer service, with an angry young lady, who should be no where near customer. If management care at all about this business, they should be getting rid of staff with this kind of attitude. We ceratinly won't be supporting this bussiness and the food was...

I usually come here to get my fav croissants even before they moved to this new spot and my experience was always amazing, however today I walk into the bakery wearing my tradie work clothes and the front desk lady was staring at me in a funny way, so by the time I ordered my croissants she mentioned the price I believe because she thought I wasn’t able to pay for my order, (as a highlight every item has the price under the product) anyway that made me feel bit uncomfortable because is the first time something like that happens to me, but I didn’t pay much attention to that, however at the end she charge extra for something that I didn’t order, luckily another lady at the bakery help me to double check the prices in my order and she refunded me the extra money that I was charged with no reason, is a shame someone is able to do that to people overseas like me that we trust in this sort of places when we never check the bill by the time we do payments because we think everyone is honest in...
