Disgusting.
The waitress seemed to be in a rush, even though there were only four tables and four floor staff. She mumbled her welcome and “scan to order,” and it took me a minute to figure out what she was saying.
Now, on to the food. I ordered the crispy pork and Chinese barbecue pork rice, as well as the beef chow fun.
The chow fun was okay—nothing special, just edible. But the crispy pork and Chinese barbecue pork rice… good god. The “crispy pork” was soft, and not in a good way. I asked the waitress to send it back, and they did. When it came back, I immediately knew what had happened: they microwaved it. It tasted exactly like leftovers that had been reheated. The second time they brought it out, the whole thing was cold. Ridiculous. So I called the waiter over and asked him directly, “With the crispy pork, are there only two options—cold and crispy, or hot and soft?” They ended up cancelling the order, but my girlfriend’s mood was already ruined. I’m pretty sure they microwave everything—not just an assumption, but because I actually saw it.
Also, not sure why the waitresses were laughing when I raised the issue.
They gave me a 15% discount, which came to about four dollars. Honestly, that made no difference—if anything, it annoyed me even more. My girlfriend had just finished a long day at work and was really looking forward to trying Phoenix Kitchen, but she ended up leaving with an empty stomach.
Also, the dessert looked disgusting. Microwaved as well, you can see the dried up bit on the edge of the bowl.
I don’t ask much from a cheap eatery, but this level of food and service was...
