Food was always good, but service today was the worst ever. Never expect to have decent service from Laksa House, but today it was shocking. The problem was minor in fact, I ordered an iced milk tea, the cashier she asked if I would like iced lemon tea or teh tarik, I said iced milk tea (she was looking on her phone at the same time). Iced lemon tea was served instead of iced milk tea, first waitress refused to change it, then 2nd waitress came and insisted it was my fault, zero manner, zero respect, no apology. And she came with the iced milk tea and demanded me to pay extra 70 cents but no explain if that's a price difference or is it an extra charge for changing my order, she gone very sour and said "ONLY 70 cents", so I started to question why is she working in customer service and how long has she been a waitress, and she dropped the drink and said " FINE !YOU DON"T HAVE TO PAY". Of course, the drama went on from there. She went back to the bar, and spoke loudly to everyone in Mandarin that I refused to pay the 70 cents, so I yelled from my table that I could understand Mandarin and she should treat her customer with more respect. After reading the reviews from other people who had bad experience with a female waitress, I wonder if she's the one everyone is talking about. I've been Laksa House customer for the last 5 years since I moved to the city, food is good, service never really exist but today was another level below average. Never bad mouth your customer in front of your staffs and other patrons, worst of all, where the customer could hear you....

Another Asian restaurant along Elizabeth Street Melbourne, specialising in Malaysian dishes. I read the many reviews (positive and negative) about this place and wanted to find out for myself if there was any truth to the claims being made. I had lunch today and I gave it 4 stars as the food was good not great, the service was acceptable not fantastic and the venue was adequate not spectacular. But to be fair it is my opinion that they have delivered exactly what they set out to do. Firstly the food was presented well, at the right temperature and the taste was close the what I expected it to be. The service was adequate, the lass who took my order was pleasant and competently catered for the variation I requested. I did this just to see if indeed the staff were incompetent as the reviews suggested. I had the pork and chicken with egg noodles while my partner had the chicken rice. I found the staff to be very capable and in fact I felt sorry for one particular lady who had to walk up and close the door after every customer to ensure patrons were not blasted with the cold wind. It is the customers who were not considerate enough to close the door when they leave. The venue was plain and was designed for patrons to consume their meal and leave. It was not designed to have you lingering around after you have had your meal. The pricing was good and the serves were large. I certainly enjoyed my meal and regret the bad reviews you have been getting. I wish you all the best. I will be back and will bring my...

Cane here with the family because they were raving on about how good the Laksa here is. We ordered the Hawker Curry Laksa, egg noodles with BBQ pork, Hainanese chicken rice and braised egg, traditional bak kut teh, and classic pork claypot noodles. Food was served very quickly. Had really high expectations but unfortunately the food fell short today. Everything was average, not bad, but not good either. There was a hit with every dish. The Hainanese chicken was very tender and smooth, but the ginger sauce was quite watered down. The egg noodles sauce was more towards the sweet side and the noodles didn't have enough bite. Bak kut teh had a mouth-watering herbal fragrance but the meat was not tender and taste was bland. Laksa was on the less spicy side even with the sambal mixed in. Claypot noodles were served sizzling hot and we could not really fault them, but at the same time there was nothing mind-blowing about them either. Family agreed that today was a miss. Pricewise everything is very reasonable, and if you are after an affordable, quick fix of Malaysian food this could be one of the places you would go to. However based on this experience, there are other places which do tastier...

Short version : Decent food with fair value—around 7.5–8/10. No surcharge all year round, and weekday cash payments even come with a free drink. Service was fine for us, though the slamming door could use some attention. Full review: Overall, I would say it’s just okay, with the main highlight being that there’s no surcharge all year round. On weekdays, if you pay cash, you even get a complimentary drink as a little reward. We ordered the BBQ chicken noodles, signature laksa, pork bone soup pan mee, taro spring rolls, Thai fish cakes, and two drinks. The food was decent—nothing amazing, but quite good. If I had to score it, I’d give it around 75–80 out of 100. As for service, I personally didn’t experience the rude counter staff that others mentioned. When we first arrived, there were no seats available, so we sat outside. Later, once a table was cleared inside, the staff kindly tidied it up and invited us to move in, which I appreciated. One small thing to note: the door can be quite loud every time it closes—it sounds like it’s being slammed shut. It might be worth fixing or adding a soft-close to make the dining experience more pleasant.
