We 'celebrated' a birthday at Poon's. Booked well in advance on a Sunday afternoon. We waited so long for our food watching the tables around us served constantly but of course we were polite and remained patient understanding just how busy hospitality is. We could see there was one staff member bringing out food while the other one handled other business so naturally things are going to take longer. Decided to make small talk and mention how busy it was and not to stress and was met with the reply 'but it's all under control' Okay. Waiting that long for food, ordering so many drinks because we didn't have anything on our table at all for most of our duration at the restaurant isn't exactly 'under control' We are within 10 minutes, didn't sit around. We could see they wanted us out for the next booking. So of course we asked if we could take home the left overs. That will be $500 and we'll charge you for the containers you asked for. Every single one. No such thing as even a complimentary prawn cracker bag for our wait? We don't expect that of course but you charged us for multiple servings of prawn crackers that were put on our table that we didn't even order so we thought great! We have something to finally eat for the next two hours! Food was great, but we were really hungry so who knows. Thanks for...
Read moreAs a family I personally have been dining out at Poons since I was a toddler - I'm now a customer of over over 50 years, all my adult children also all now regularly go to Poons for dinner with their families, my beautiful Mum aged 81 remembers going to Poons at their prior location in Footscray for banana fritters with friends after attending local dances when she was young and still enjoys attending with us. Poons is always our go to for all and any family celebrations ...We love the efficiency and kindness of the staff especially the owners who work tirelessly to attend to all their customers. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is fabulous and we enjoy the delicious and large range of Chinese cuisine on offer. We always leave with a huge smile on our faces and very full bellies from the generous servings. My husband and I especially enjoy spoiling ourselves with a Banquet whenever we can... which now my children have discovered and enjoy! Poons Diamond Palace is definitely our families number one favourite restaurant - 4 generations on and we still look forward to Poons!

Read moreWent to Poons for dinner tonight as we were in the area. Use to come frequently and food was always delicious so really looked forward to it. When we arrived we were prompted to order via the QR code and the message on the table said to order for quicker service etc. Ordered and 30 minutes later still had not received any entree or even the prawn crackers. There were two tables who came in after us and had their order taken in person and then both received meals before us. I then prompted a worker who brought our entree out. The dim sims did not taste very fresh and were not overly hot. When our mains finally came out 45 minutes later while they were ok, they again weren’t overly hot or fresh tasting. It tasted like they had been sitting there for 30 minutes before being brought out to us. We left feeling very disappointed with the food especially after we had previously had positive experiences there. We are not local and the restaurant is 45 minutes away from home so unfortunately won’t be returning any time soon. $75...
