I used to frequent the Prince Alfred Pub in Port Melbourne, and had fond memories of studying there while enjoying good food and drinks. Unfortunately, my last experiences have completely soured my perception of this place.

After being treated disrespectfully by the bar manager, I politely asked if someone else could serve me. Instead of a simple response, I was abruptly asked to leave, with no explanation, just because I didn’t accept poor service. The manager’s reaction seemed driven by personal ego, not professionalism, and it left me feeling humiliated.

To make matters worse, I noticed the lady owner or manager seemed to be tracking my movements around other bars in the area. As someone who has always tried to be respectful and enjoy their time out, I found this behavior invasive and unsettling. It felt like an attempt to single me out for reasons I still don't understand, and I can only wonder if this is how they operate when they don’t like someone.

While the pub itself offers good food and a great atmosphere when the staff are friendly, the actions of the management have made it clear that they don’t value their customers. Instead, it seems like their goal is to control and intimidate anyone they deem unworthy of their service.

I won’t be returning, and I would caution others to consider whether it’s worth risking the...

As a Port Melbourne local, I frequent PA’s often for the friendly staff, good food and occasional live music. Until tonight…

Myself, my sister and our partners went to PA’s for an after work drink, some food and a game of pool for a casual Thursday night. Everything was great until the lady with brown curly hair behind the bar refused to serve me my 3rd drink as they were closing in 45 minutes. Once I questioned her, I was yelled at and was threatened to be kicked out of the pub. She also served my partners last drink order (aperol spritz) in negroni glasses. I assume this was to be spiteful based on how little we had to drink over an extended period of time.

This woman then began to yell at the table next to us (a man who was with his wife and kids) for ‘laughing at her’ although that was not the case. She then proceeded to stand behind the bar on the phone while loudly, and very incorrectly, recanting the ‘exchange’ for the entire pub to hear.

To the woman with dark brown curly hair behind the bar, I hope you find another role that perhaps suits your personality a bit more, hopefully before you deter anyone else from...

Lovely vibe and great staff at the pub with live music playing however the Sunday roasts we had were a let down unfortunately.

Came in a stack not separate trimmings. Beef and gravy were nice but all the vegetables were tasteless which let it down.

Potato’s just boiled and fried quick in flour I’m guessing, not roasted enough for any crispy outside at all.

Cauliflower cheese had either next to none or no cheese in at all so was just in plain white sauce.

Greens ok but too undercooked for a traditional roast style meal.

Carrots completely tasteless maybe over boiled and left in water. Cabbage the same.

So realistically the only roasted ingredient seemed to be the sirloin itself, the rest was really just boiled vegetables, not a roast.

Beer was lovely on a good note.

I have been a chef for over 10 years all over the world and love a good roast. Researched this one with high hopes but will return to my usual place for Sunday roast in the future.

Did not bring up any issues up with the staff, it was loud inside and did not feel like the hassle today after a busy week. But as I said they...

One of my favourite spots in Port Melbourne, if not in the whole city, and with the best social media accounts ever! (just go follow them on Insta; you will thank me later!). On our first visit, we ordered the Chicken Parma (juicy crumbed chicken breast topped with ham, house-made Napoli & mozzarella, served with chips & salad), and the Grilled Market Fresh Fish (served with salad). Obviously, we were not disappointed with the food at all. It was GREAT! On my second visit, I ordered the Loaded Pizza Fries (with house-made Napoli, olives, mushrooms, oregano & melted cheese) because life is too short. I didn't even have time to take a picture of it, as it was just way too good to not dig in right away. IT WAS YUMMY! They have a good beer selection, and the staff are super friendly. I just want to come back for more :)

We visited this pub a few times in November and December 2023 and were happy we found a new place for a good feed. After tonight’s experience we won’t be back. Firstly, the staff member couldn’t change the Parma to be a schnitzel “naked Parma” and I got charged extra for gravy. Secondly, at least 2 of the staff have long hair and were playing with it, then serving food. And they seemed to be unhappy with each other. When the meal arrived it was a standard Parma with gravy on the side, so I had to scrape off the tomato ham and cheese, revealing a totally different and THIN schnitzel compared to the meals in 2023. Most expensive ($32) and rubbish Parma I’ve had in years. I have attached photos of tonight’s meal and one from November 2023.

The Prince Alfred Hotel is doing a lot right, and I mean HEAPS! Classic older style building located half way down Bay Street, Port Melbourne, from the minute you walk in, you can tell they are making a serious attempt at being the best in the area. Food, massive meals really well priced and good pub grub, they are offering all the things we like to find on a pub menu. Beer, good range of local and popular craft styles but your traditional beers are also represented (Including Melbourne Bitter on tap). Friday nights and weekends have a heavy rotation of Bands, duos and solo artists. More your acoustic / rock genre, week nights host trivia / beer and wine tastings. Like I said "A LOT". Something for everyone here, I highly recommend a visit.
