Ringwood RSL — Restaurant in Melbourne

Decided to shout a mate lunch at Ringwood RSL after he just lost his brother. We decided to go to their more upmarket Bistro for a quality meal rather than a bar meal. Well what a mistake that was, first we decided to share a main meal of their “special” soft shell crab as our starter. This arrived and was obviously a frozen quick meal as it mainly consisted of manufactured white imitation crab meat surrounded by crab legs which were tasteless. Followed by a premium filet Mignon which was ordered to be cooked rare which came served up very well done on a potato rosti that was pure soggy mush. My mate ordered the “Deans burger” and the beef patty was absolute mush in the middle along with some very weirdly deep fried battered chicken type fillets. Overall all the food was mostly inedible.

Sure we complained to the waitress as she cleared away our almost uneaten plates and she said she would mention it to the chef. That turned out to be a waste of time as the Chef didn’t care.

It’s so sad to see an institution like the RSL where you can always count on a consistent (if not average) meal offer such sub standard food cooked in a far sub standard way where the staff don’t give a damn!

We have been here for Sunday night dinner several times this year due to convenience. Service has varied in quality each time, from abrupt and rushed to friendly. The atmosphere and decor seems a bit depressing. Last night my husband purchased the membership however I wish he hadnt-our two main meals left a lot to be desired! My Tandoori chicken salad contained the toughest chicken I have ever tried to eat. It was hard to cut off the skewers and even tougher to chew. There were large chunks of raw carrot throughout. Husband's lambs fry was bland and uninteresting he reported. Kids meals were small and uninteresting but chips were tasty and crisp. We arrived just after 7pm but there was nothing much to do nor watch on the consoles in kids area as it was all shut down. I am a regular customer at the RSL. 2-3 months ago l had won $1100 while playing a machine. I put reserved on my machine to go to the toilet when l returned l found someone had played the free games and collated my ticket. They cashed the ticket in and had left with my money. The manager Jack said they couldn't help with my money that had been stolen. I went to the police and made a statement. Turns out the 2 girls that stole my money were known to police. Even though l had been going to the RSL for over 9 years and a regular customer, l was brushed off by the staff.
