First of all, as I was predominately there to look at wheelchair access, I can certainly say Sea Salt Kitchen is suitable in terms of entry, room to move inside, and a wheelchair accessible toilet. Table service was a bonus. The tables have easy access to move a wheelchair underneath with table legs not getting in the way of foot plates or wheels. These are all a huge dealbreaker for wheelchair users. I really noticed how the friendly staff seemed happy to be at work and were doing their tasks independently (not micro managed). The restaurant was clean, bright and welcoming. There was, thankfully, no music. Soft music would be okay but isn’t needed. Condiments were on every table which was very convenient. I appreciated the restaurant style of a bottle of tap water and glasses being put on the table as customers sat down. My meal of fish, chips and potato cakes was delicious. The batter on the fish was light and crunchy and didn’t fall off. The piece of flake was fat, juicy and flavoursome. The potato cakes had plenty of potato and were tasty. The chips were okay, but I prefer hand cut ‘real’ chips. However, I appreciate this is a difficult time with potato shortages. All in all, a relaxing experience with yummy food. I would certainly recommend Sea Salt Kitchen. Oh, and it is licensed too!

Stumbled on this place with full intention to go somewhere else down lygon st. What a good decision that was. Great menu with a few off the wall items compared to your normal fish and chippery. Loved the restaurant lay out and vibe on first thoughts, but lets get to the good stuff- For dinner, i got the fish of the day x katsu curry with brown rice & calimari as a side. CALIMARI - well seasoned and not oily ✔ - perfect flesh consistency and not stringy ✔ FISH KATSU CURRY - crunchy panko crumb ✔ - flakey buttery fillet ✔ - brown rice spot on ✔ - killer curry sauce ✔ - root veggies to boot ✔ OVERALL - AMAZING customer service ✔ - VALUE for money ✔ - QUALITY produce ✔ - HUGE serving size ✔ Whats not to love?! For me, it was unfaultable. Keep it up guys!

GOOD QUALITY AND HEALTHY - VIA UBER EATS Sea Salt Fish Cafe in Carlton - like most other restaurants these days - offers delivery via apps such as Uber Eats. This review if for a meal from Sea Salt delivered by Uber Eats. Two of us got home and neither could be bothered cooking but wanted something healthy... so we ordered 2 "wellbeing warriors" - fish with brown rice and quinoa and grains plus green salads ... and of course to satisfy that need for a not so healthy side.. potato cakes! Everything was fresh, perfectly cooked and held its "integrity" despite the motorcycle ride from Carlton to North Melbourne. Food had cooled a little in transit but not so much that we needed to reheat.

Sea Sault Seafood Eatery: A Decade of Exceptional Experience Why Sea Sault Remains My Unbeatable Favourite in Carlton From the age of seven, Sea Sault Seafood Eatery in Carlton has been a cherished part of my life’s journey. My loyalty to this establishment is rooted not just in delicious food, but in the genuine care and attentiveness that define every visit. As someone who is blind, the importance of excellent customer service cannot be overstated. The team at Sea Sault consistently goes above and beyond, transforming each meal into a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Every staff member deserves commendation, but there are a few stars who truly shine. Nick, with his warm and welcoming manner, always ensures I’m looked after, making me feel like part of the Sea Sault family. I must also highlight the exceptional service from Anushka, a lovely young lady who has taken care of me on two memorable occasions. Both times, I left thoroughly impressed by her genuine kindness, professionalism, and outstanding attention to detail. It’s rare to find such dedicated staff, and Anushka’s efforts embody the heart and soul of what makes Sea Sault special. Of course, no review would be complete without a mention of the food. The freshness of the seafood is second to none—each bite is a reminder of why I keep coming back. Whether I’m enjoying the classic fish and chips or exploring the expanded menu, there’s always something exciting and satisfying to try. The atmosphere is equally inviting, with music that enhances the dining experience, making it my number one choice after a trip to the movies or when I’m entertaining clients or sharing a meal with someone special. I’ve also noticed the recent changes in management. While some might be wary of such transitions, I’m pleased to say that the spirit and standards of Sea Sault remain as strong—if not even better—than ever before. The menu has grown beyond its humble beginnings, offering more variety while maintaining the high standards I’ve come to expect. In conclusion, thank you to the entire Sea Sault team for consistently delivering memorable experiences over the years. Your dedication to service and quality food is truly appreciated. I look forward to my next visit—rest assured, I’ll...

Went in to up some fish and chips until I got a look at the prices. The menu had flake for $17 and the rest of the fish menu was similar. Just shocking, as you may imagine I bypassed the fish! Instead I purchased 4 steamed Dim Sims, 3 p.c’s and orange juice, this cost $17:10, which is still pricey. I don’t know how these places justify their prices! I’d hate to have a family and think I could afford some f&s’s because at these prices you can’t afford to feed a family a simple takeaway of this! It’s disgraceful these days!

3/04/23 To owner I don't appreciate you suggesting my review was not genuine. Let me assure that the review is a genuine review and that your prices are ridiculously high! I stand by this review!! Just because you don't like my review which is completely honest does not give you the right to claim that the review is not genuine!! Considering your response I will reiterate my original review and say doubly that your business is extremely expensive and out of reach for the average family to eat at, let alone a struggling single person who just wants an easy and cheap meal. F&S were once a weekly staple for many families and individuals, now it is only a rare treat!! Thanks to the expense and you adding fees or surcharges are an absolute disgrace. That is also across the board for other eating places. Because many Australians simply refuse to 'tip', you add 'fees' and 'surcharges' to make up for it. Australia has an excellent wage system, which is why 'tipping' is shameful in this country!!!

OWNER RESPONSES: Shows how arrogant and detestable this business is. Funny how I purchased a lovely crispy, battered fish from another business for 1/3 of the price a couple of days ago. $5.80 battered fish, melt in mouth with crisp outside. Certainly not likely to return to Lygon St version of fish...

Update: Please read the owner’s reply below I think it speaks for itself about how feedback is handled. For clarity, we did not finish the fish dishes (they simply weren’t enjoyable). I only mentioned they didn’t taste fresh and staff immediately offered a discount, no “badgering” involved. I can only share my experience from that night and leave it for you to decide whether this sounds like the dining experience you’d want.

Original review: I came here on Sunday around 6pm for dinner with family. I’ve eaten here before (about 8 months ago) and had a much better experience but unfortunately the food quality has dropped since then.

We ordered lamb rump steak, snapper plate (originally ordered barramundi but told it was unavailable), flounder feast and fish & chips. The lamb was okay but portion small. The brown rice side we were given after being told potatoes were unavailable was very bland. The fish dishes were the biggest letdown. They didn’t taste fresh and felt carelessly put together. Only the fish & chips were decent.

On the positive side, service was polite and seating was easy. The staff offered a discount after I mentioned the fish issue. Still, for the high prices(after the discount) the quality and portions did not feel worth it.

This is an honest review of my personal experience as a paying customer hoping things return to the quality I...
