I am a single mother on a low income and I save up once a year to take my son on a trip. I paid $205 per night for 3 nights. It was not an enjoyable stay. You are not given any instructions on where the fire exits are ect or any other facilities. We spent most days out and about but coming back to the room was just depressing. The carpets were full of stains. We could not walk around barefoot they were that bad. The balcony was looking at a brick wall. But if you wanted to sit on the balcony the light did not work and had wires hanging out the wall. The beds were tiny and both me and my son had our feet hanging over the end of the bed. There is no quilt cover on the quilt and the quilts are covered in stains. The toilet lid is hanging on by one hinge so you have to stable yourself while trying to go to the toilet and the lid of the toilet keeps dropping down on your back while u are trying to go. The shower is either really hot or cold. I spent 20 minutes trying to regulate the temperature but gave up and had a cold shower. The laundry is in the back of the underground carpark and costs 6 dollars a load. And 6 dollars a load to dry in addition. They offer complimentary washing powder. The phone doesn't work so if u want to speak to reception you need to go downstairs to speak with them. I complained to staff of which were very accommodating. I was offered a $100 refund which I accepted but to me its just not good enough. I would definitely reconsider before staying here. There are plenty of air bnbs in the area that offer way better amenities and cleaner than what you are offered here. The owners need to spend time and money on the place.

Unfortunately i didn't have the good experience to justify $290 with balcony. The place looks like it's being run by a mobster. The lady who checked me in was the only good thing about the place. The room smells nicotine. The lady offered me another room to inspect and swap, it too has the same smell. It's only a night so i decided to just put up with it. At night time there are hoons in the street making noises. They eventually got quiet at around 2am. In the morning one of the workers was banging on the door, shouting & cussing at another staff without any regard to the customers who might be sleeping, it was 730am. There were a bunch of old guys drowning themselves with liquor in the carpark. They were still there drinking the morning!! One of them casually walked to the back of the counter to open up a pantry well stocked with hard alcohol.😬 The guy who at the front desk coughing like he either got tuberculosis or covid and serving the customers. He was unkept, unshaven for days. Utterly unprofessional but not impolite. The room is otherwise, just, ok. Definitely not $290.

Well, what a gem this hotel is! Don’t expect a warm “hello” from the staff—especially if you’re Asian, because apparently, basic courtesy is optional here. The front desk seems to be staffed by folks who treat their job like a favor to humanity, with zero service mindset. The manager’s English, flavored with a heavy chinese accent, is about as professional as a street vendor’s sales pitch—charming, if you’re into chaos. The facilities? Let’s just say they’re functional… barely. If it works, it’s a miracle. The hotel’s motto seems to be: “We’re dirt cheap, so you should be groveling in gratitude for the privilege of staying here.” No need to thank them, though—they’re already doing you a massive favor by letting you experience this budget masterpiece. Book at your own risk, and maybe bring your own hospitality!

Overall a poor experience. The rooms were very retro and I had to change rooms because my first room the door would literally just open because it was clearly rammed/kicked open and they never bothered to fix it. When I moved to the new room it looked organized but was never properly cleaned because dirt was visible along with some nasty remnants of the last occupant. When I finally had them clean my room they left my room WIDE OPEN and didn't close the door. Thankfully my items were not taken but all I got was I'm so sorry how about a late check out as a sorry? The staff at the front desk is questionable at best. They seem friendly for hi and bye but if you interact with them they are very cold and some are just down right rude. The parking is advertised as free on booking.com by them responding to a customer but upon arrival it's 30 a day because you didn't book with them (they literally tried to charge you an extra 160 for my exact same stay) and then claim it's "free parking". The bed sheets seem nice till you open them and then realize in between the two clean sheets is an insanely dirty and clearly old heavy blanket. The bathroom is updated but the shower door is so small you have to go into it side ways (I am not skinny but I am not a big guy either). Honestly I can try to live with some of the issues but the staff at the desk was just so condescending and rude I had to make sure everyone was aware. I even had a guest over and they literally told my guests they had to use the stairs because the elevator is for hotel guests only. They had to climb 3 stories to get to me. Who does that?! The only reason others wrote a 5 star review is because on the check in desk is a give us a great review and we give you a late check out. They literally bribe people for better reviews. Avoid this place at all costs honestly plenty of better options in similar...

I've never left such a bad review but my experience with Carlton Lygon Lodge makes me have no issues giving zero stars for customer service.

I booked with Carlton Lygon Lodge in order to be near the Peter Mac hospital where a close relative had terminal cancer. Tragically, my relative passed away before my stay commenced. I called Carlton Lygon Lodge who confirmed the booking could be cancelled in these circumstances. Then the nightmare started.

They told me that because I had booked on a third party app, where it was actually listed by booking.com (unknown to me), I had to get the app and booking.com to confirm they agreed to the refund. That's reasonable, I thought. Over the following week+, I spent many hours calling the app and then booking.com - at the instruction of Carlton Lygon Lodge. Both the app and booking.com are located overseas and it took many calls and speaking with different operators repeating the situation, but they both companies agreed to the refund - Yay, right?

Carlton Lygon Lodge then refused the refund, now saying I had to have gotten both of those parties to contact them before my reservation started. That was impossible, since I had originally spoken with them the morning of my check in, and it took me 1+ week to coordinate the app and booking.com

Not only did Carlton Lygon Lodge send me on a fools errand - spending 1+ week on something they now said had to have been completed the same of my check in, they also knew the circumstances and had me waste so many hours while grieving and planning the funeral of my close relative.

When I spoke with Carlton Lygon Lodge again, they point blank refused any refund or part refund. Nothing.

It was the worst customer experience of my life. I will never stay at Carlton Lygon Lodge, and I will never recommend it to any friends of family looking to stay in the Carlton /...
