Placed right opposite Hampton station is where you will find the lovely Sebastian Food and Wine cafe. With both indoor and heated outdoor seating, it is the perfect stop for breakfast anytime of the year.
The staff were lovely and it was smiles all round. We decided to sit outdoors and it definitely was not cold at all. Keeping warm and toasty under the heating we were able to enjoy the fresh air of the seaside town.
As we went at lunch time, I went for the ‘Miso Greens’ (VEG, VO, GFO) which came with steamed greens, kale, broccolini, ginger cabbage, pickle, avocado, mung bean sprouts, toasted seeds, poached egg, nori and a light tamari dressing. I also chose to have their healthy loaf gluten free toast instead of sourdough. As it came out, it looked immediately fresh and tasty. I loved the addition of the seeds to give an extra crunch as well as the ginger cabbage that cut through the other greens on the plate to give it layers.
My mum, who attended with me, went for the ‘Avocado Smash’ (VEG, GFO) with Persian feta, fresh chilli, toasted almonds, lemon on multigrain toast. She said that is was amazing and fresh. She especially loved the ripeness of the avocado as well as the fresh chilli.
Together we shared what they call the ‘Tasting Plate’ which I think is a really cool, unique idea, especially if you are someone that struggles to decide. It comes with:
Cauliflower fritter, kale, pumpkin hummus Sriracha maple glazed bacon, smashed avo, poached egg Choc raspberry waffle, vanilla custard & raspberry ice cream
Both of us loved all the elements and the fact that we could taste a little bit of everything. But we give major complements to the chef on the maple bacon, which as my mum stated was ‘the best bacon [we] have had in a long time’ She couldn’t stop talking about it all the way home.
The staff were so nice and I appreciated all their hospitality. It really lifted the cafe and its food. Which was already amazing in its self. I give high praise to everyone involved with and working at this lovely cafe in the...
Read moreThis is the sort of place where most people just wander in and out on a whim, so perhaps reservations are rare. Just like for me, I drove from Mordialloc to Sebastian's Food and Wine specifically, and being after 2.00pm, I was worried I would miss lunch as I also had no table reservation. But, alas no, and was told I made it by 20 minutes. Not my first time here, both other times I was very impressed with the food, and that does not come easily from me. The previous time I was at Sebastian's I had the chef’s Buddha bowl. A decent size for a lunch composed of fresh vegetable ingredients with roasted sweet potato covered with toasted seeds for additional flavor. The serving size was in good proportion to what I would class a good plate cost to portion size. Basic in its composition, the vegetables work together well and a great healthy filler for lunch. Now on my return visit, I had the chef’s choice “Twice cooked Beef Brisket”. Again, a great and simple dish cooked and then infused in a coconut, lemongrass sauce on a bed of rice. Mastery in its simplicity with a clear accent on Asian influence which gave this dish more appeal. The lemongrass is also not overpowering and lifts the meal from what one might consider as simple and cheap brisket and rice. Well done chef…and I gave my compliments. Staff members are relaxed, yet pleasant and attentive enough. A hybrid of half payment counter, half bar service, you can either go up to the bar for a drink or wait for someone to come to you. Sebastian's is way more than just a Café to those that see it as such. Food of this quality, and quantity present as good value, and in my mind separate this place for others in the area very clearly. Hopefully the owners maintain the standards and focus on the customer first. Will definitely be coming back and look forward to the...

What an amazing experience we had at Sebastian's Food and Wine! This friendly local cafe/bar in the heart of Hampton is definitely one to visit if you're in the area, or even travel across town for the experience. Great space on the corner with heaps of different seating options, outside, inside or out the back with great lighting for photos!
Drinks: We had a couple of drinks, classic Pimms cup and and Mango Smoothie. Both chilled and done to perfection
Steak Sandwich $20: Eye fillet, lettuce, tomato relish, seeded mustard mayo, bacon, onion rings, tomato and cheese on pumpkin sourdough with fries. Personally we're not usually a big fan of sandwiches, but this one by the Sebastian's team blew us away! The steak was perfectly cooked, not too tough, bread was crisp, flavour balanced very well.
Waffles $18: Blueberry waffle, passionfruit curd, caramelised coconut, raspberry coulis, mango sorbet, hazelnut crumble. No joke the best waffles we've ever had in Melbourne! If you're a waffle fan, this is a waffle you don't want to miss! The mix of sweet and tart, soft and crunchy was done so well we eat the waffles up before the savoury dishes. Would have this morning, afternoon or night any day!
Tasting Plate $20: Triple combo of cauliflower fritter, sriracha maple glazed bacon with smashed avo + egg and mini smoothie bowl. A great sampler of the awesome other dishes offered by this great cafe.
Price: Definitely affordable, especially for the level of food you can enjoy!
Overall: 5/5 - would definitely re-live, re-eat and dejafood the...
