This is one of the smaller stores in the franchise however it has a great location at the entrance to the shopping mall surrounded by a number of other great restaurants. Being a smaller store means that you may have to wait for a seat in peak times. I should also mention that this location has also lost its alcohol licence and that soft drinks is your only beverage option other than water unlike the Russel st location which has a beverage menu including beers, wines and cocktails making the experience feel like a proper night out. I understand that this is a mid range casual dining experience but with prices of eating out drastically increasing, it makes sense to make each meal feel special. The food is great. The entré menu may be smaller than other Melbourne based izakayas and Ramen restaurants, but includes most Japanese favourites. We had Karaage, edamame, takoyaki, gyoza and croquette. All of which were fantastic but these came out after our Ramen was already at the table. This issue may have been worse if the location was licensed as these are great appetizers with beers. The Ramen is good. I think mostly a miso or salt based broth, however I ordered the Volcano which adds some heat to the broth. The toppings can be doubled for under $10 however this allowed the Nori sheets to be added to the soup at all, where I would have expected these would be a base item. Ultimately, there are not alot of base topping for a $20 bowl of noodles, and that's disappointing considering how moorish the Ramen is.
I think this is a great franchise and that this restaurant is an ok example of that, but considering the quality of the Thai restaurant next door and other Japanese restaurants in the area, you may be better if with another store or travelling into Melbourne CBD location of Shujinko, which is only another 15 minutes for those coming in from the south...
Read moreI ordered 2 Ramen, and a gyoza. After eating one of the gyoza, I noticed that it was a bit bitter and weird tasting, so I told my partner to try it as well, and she said the same thing. As I am a regular customer, who often order the gyoza, I know something was off. I informed one of their staff who said they would check with the chef, but nothing was done. After the meal, I went to the counter and informed the staff again, and again nothing was done. At the point, the experience was already very dissappointing. Went back home, and both of us had food poisoning. Tried to contact them to discuss the issue as I have been in the hospitality industry and know that those things happen, but they couldn't be bothered! Definitely last time I go to this place.
Update: This place is going from BAD to WORSE. Price increased but portion, ingredients, and quality all decreased. I have seen many businesses increase their price, which is understandable, but never have I seen a business increase their price and give less! That is simply mind blowing! I wouldn’t be surprised if they close shop soon. And customer service is less to be desired. All the waitresses look like they...
Read moreVery disappointed in everything from food to service. Soup a bit bland, noodle was a bit hard. Ordered 3 different types of ramen plus an oden. The soup in the oden was better, the rest was no good. We had takeaway and the girl who handed me the food assured me everything is in order when I enquired before leaving to store. When I got home, I discovered they have forgotten to give me pork mince for miso ramen. There's just half an egg, two shreds of bok choy and some garnish, that's it and for $21! You don't expect the main ingredient to be missing! The kitchen staff clearly isn't paying attention to what they're doing. It's very frustrating when you don'tget what you paid for, especially when we've travelled a long way. Generally, the food is already over priced - a bowl of ramen have one thin piece of pork, half an egg and two shreds of bok choy and garnish for $20-$21. It's extremely over priced for low quality food. The same restaurant in the CBD at least give you 2...
