My local souvlaki shop unfortunately doesn’t serve pork, so I came here to try the pork souvlaki,(I actually tried 3 other shops within a couple of weeks trying to enjoy a pork souvlaki without any success!!!) “ yep! (all 4 of them serve very similar pork souvlaki, actually I’d say this one was the less bad one! Nice shop, nice people, nice many things here but my pork souvlaki was well below average! Plenty of dry tasteless pork with very little salad! The first couple of bites seemed like I was going to love it, and then I kept eating just dry meat and pita that tasted like moistened cardboard, it was difficult to swallow the food! ☹️ It seems most souvlaki shops in Melbourne do the same 2 major mistakes! They use the same tasteless ” pita” and give heaps of meat without any ingredient balance to make the experience enjoyable and memorable! I will give it another try later sometime hopefully a new cook will do it properly, EDIT: Mid July 2020, I have been there a few more times since last reviewed this place, It seem their souvlakis have improved, the meat is mostly good lately, (still the same tasteless pita bread though) nice to see improvement, Well done, (rating changed from 2* to 3* EDIT: July 2022, Yet another update, this happened several months ago, passing though the area and contrary to my son's argument not to buy food from this shop again, I stopped and got 2 pork souvlakis and chips, the meat was all burned ends of the yiros, for the first time in my life I returned food to a shop! I was really disappointed! the lady immediately offered to refund the money, her answer to my comment that the meat was uneatable she replied "it is the first cut of a new yiros and that's why the meat is burned" I suggested to throw the burned part of the meat in the bin and serve customers moist meat and not burned! That's it for me, I will listen to my son's advice and never give this shop...

Good place. Casual and spacious Greek cafe. It delivered exactly what I was after. Good honest and simple Greek fare. There’s comforting old decor here. Greek music on as well. Love the old style offerings all around too. Greek soapie on the 1980s TV in the corner. Love it.
On arrival there was a young tradie tucking into a huge souvlaki which looked delicious. There was also a group of retirees reliving their trip to Greece a few years ago. Other people including couples were wandering in and out as well. A steady trade.
I went for a mixed grill with salad and chips. The meat was pork and chicken. Really good sized serve when it arrived. No skimping here. The meat was absolutely delicious. The pork was perfectly cooked. Beautifully flavoured with a lovely smoky taste. Gorgeous with a tiny squeeze of lemon. The chicken was superb too. The chips were crisp and golden with perfect sprinkling of salt. A superb little Greek salad to finish. Great feta. A decent slice with lovely flavour. The cucumber, tomato, capsicum, olives and onion were all as fresh as a daisy.
Service is restrained and reserved. Efficient though.
Good place. I will...
Read moreWe’ve eaten a lot of Greek food over the years, and @spitakisouvlaki has easily earned a top spot on our list. The food? Absolutely mouthwatering. The service? Impeccable. And the atmosphere? Like stepping into a home where everyone’s treated like family.
The menu had so many tempting options, I couldn’t decide – thankfully, John was there to guide us. We ended up with a true feast (with plenty of leftovers for the next day – always a win!). We were so full, we had to take the loukoumades to go… and yes, everything is made in-house. The flavors were next-level.

There wasn’t a single dish we didn’t love, but the Aesop’s Grill platter stood out – perfectly grilled meats made for sharing.
