The food was really nice. Wait staff could have been a little more attentive, but they had a big function happening. Although I did observe one member of the staff standing around looking at his phone. That said, will definitely be coming back, there are more items on the menu I want to try....previous rating was 5 star.

Update 24/4/21. Went back again. To say I was dissappointed was an understatement. We booked ahead because we assumed they'd be busy, and they were. The table we were seated was terrible. My partner kept getting bumped because there was someone at the table next to us seated in the walkway and people trying to get around that customer kept knocking her because there was not enough room. So much for making a booking and social distancing. There was a lot of staff rostered on but it was disorganised chaos. Took 20 mins from the time we were seated to even place a drinks order let alone food, and that only happened because we flagged down a staff member. We had to ask for sugar at the table, also for the salt and pepper. No idea who was serving in our section so as you can imagine the service was sub par. The cutlery was still wet when it came to the table after the food as was the teaspoon with the coffee so was suspicious as to how clean it was. Could have sworn the waitress brought us a decanter of water that still had water from the previous use. When asked the waitress denied it rather than just offering to get another one. My coffee was luke warm. As for the food, well the chips that came with the burger was nice....that's about it. The guy at the register was not engaging in any way. So surprised that it was busy. Mustn't be other good cafes in the area? End result, we won't be back. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere, and I was in such a good mood before I arrived at the Baker's Wife. Really put a downer on...

Very disappointed experience at the Baker's wife cafe (Camberwell) today, I usually come and grab something, especially during the lockdown, not because how delicious the food are or how friendly the staff, just because it is close to my house and it is a small business. In fact, the staff there are extremely RUDE! and the food are pretty average. I went to the cafe today with my tiny toy poodle. I tied my dog outside of the cafe as usual and went inside. The girl at the counter barely greeted me, neither the male boss and not even to mention the young male staff. I had my order and saw a big dog passed my poodle and nearly attacked him. I quickly went outside and stayed with my dog. I waited for so long, no one inside was bother to let me know my food and coffee were ready, the girl at the counter clearly could see I am with a dog and it was not busy in the store at that time. I waited for nearly15 minutes and took my dog inside to pick up my order, I saw my food and coffee were ready at the counter a long time ago, as the coffee was cold. What's worse, the male staff did not apologise about this or at least asked if I need help (I ordered two bags of food and a coffee and I had to grab my dog), but he turned around and told me dogs are not allowed in this cafe. How funny is this! They do not care about their FOOD, their CUSTOMER SERVICE what they care is they do not want to clean up just in case. Literally, there was no other customers in store, the staff could easily help me out taking the food out to me rather than let them wait at the counter to be freezingly cold and then blame me. NO MANNER AT ALL OF THIS STORE! WILL NEVER GO BACK. I have been to so many other cafes with fantastic...

Came here on a Sunday to grab some cafe food to go, I liked the aesthetics of the place and the food looked alright but that is where the disappointment began.

For whatever reason there were many many many flies everywhere, and the bake bread and pastries just sitting on the counter had flies crawelling all over them, as did the coffee mugs they were serving coffee in, as did many other surfaces.

I do not understand why there were soooooo many flies, it makes me question what unsanitary practices were going on to lead to this, and what this also means for the quality of the food prepared in the kitchen. I felt disgusted

I also have a negative customer service experience with the person who served me at the counter. The did not care at all, no direction as to where to wait for coffee and food while waiters kept moving around us at the counter, and as I have an egg allergy I asked with one sandwich had mayonnaise on it he confirmed yes, so I selected 2 others which I did not expect would contain mayo and while eating them I discovered they did. Wouldn't it be common sense to offer that information after someone had just asked about one sandwich containing egg mayo!? Luckily I am not anaphylactic, but regardless I was quite sick later that day.

I will not be returning or and will warn friends to not waste their time or money.

Coffee tasted good, food tasted average, salad on sandwiches looked a bit withered. Value...

A huge dining space with impressive, well lit, tall vaulted wood beam ceiling in a converted warehouse. Its 'edgy industrial' ambiance provides a sensory experience to one dining at the venue: the aesthetics of the creative mural artwork & interior decor is appealing. Furthermore, pleasantly surprised to find a reasonable large-size pergola design dining courtyard out the back. Our first visit menu (now with a QR code): limited ... ahhh!!! no doubt less decision fatigue for customers. The menu created enough of an impression so that it stays with us long after the waiter walked off with it. The menu caters (may I say) to the most sophisticated palate, offering a range of breakfast & lunch favourites; also choosing the right beverage to round off one's meal. Quite a selection of specially selected quality hot & cold drinks, cocktails, beer & wine to complement one's menu choice. Aside, cakes & sandwiches are on display at the counter available for takeaway & dine-in. Nevertheless, when the meals arrived, one could see & much appreciated: dedicated thoughts were put into them. The dining experience definitely created an opportunity to indulge in tastes, scents & texture that one wishes nourish & nurture. Truly, there is a recall value in one's mind as a customer. At other times, when busy: the friendly staff appeared to rush off their feet & looked stress much to our dismay!!! Our "feelgood" vibes just went out the door.

Walked in for 2 people on a Thursday around 11sh to have brunch. Probably good to book as it was starting to fill up inside, though there was heaps of seating still in their courtyard/outside. It was easy to walk in and find a spot for 2. Service was great - waiters and waitresses really warm and accommodating. Our food came promptly, as did our coffees. We ordered the smoked salmon with potato hash, then the barramundi with kipfler potatoes. Everything tasted so fresh - and went well together. I really liked the fried onions and olives on my smoked salmon dish, giving a little more additional flavour. Mum was really happy with her barramundi - the skin of the fish perfectly crispy. Bonus points for atmosphere and the not too cramped space - I liked the space between tables and seats, and there was also accessible entry at the back. There are lots of table options for various group sizes. Also a private room space if you need to have a little more intimate of a gathering or work meeting. Overall really great space, food, and service. All together we spent about around $65 approx. standard for a Melbourne brunch spot. Highly recommend a visit.

Friends and I were fortunate to spend three hours at the Bakers Wife having made a reservation [despite being told after everyone arrived at the table that we only had an hour and a half window to be there]. I am grateful we had the time we had, as although meals were beautiful and worth the wait, the wait was around 40 minutes. What was disappointing about today was the lack of service. I don't feel there was a lack of staff, and I understand the challenges all businesses are facing with the current climate, even as the restaurant emptied out, our empty plates etc sat at our table for 1.5 hours before the first were cleared, and they didn't return to clear the remainder. And although I look forward to returning as it is a beautiful place to be and meet, I am not looking forward to returning to the bathrooms. They may indeed be cleaned during a normal busy lunch period, they certainly could have been today when around a hundred or more are dining and there are only a couple of toilets. Overall - attentive staff, delicious food, lovely surroundings however room for improvement.... Thank you. x
