We love the Gangjung and have been here on a few occasions now. Very authentic and genuinely kind chef / owner! The food always hits the spot! Creamy onion chicken was a pleasant surprise! The go to sweet chili and spicy are on point, though, so it's hard to deviate. The tteok bokki was a tad milder than we would have preferred, but likely dialed down for local preference (think 5-6 /10 not 7-8/10). Still have more to try, so will update accordingly.
Came back recently. The spicy pork burrito was tasty. A bit tame on spice, as there is a mayo and cheese which mute the spice and make it more of a kick (3/10). It comes with chips, but it's a small basket. The chips were cooked well and lightly seasoned. The meal didn't really fill me up, but it was enough and flavour was good. For size context, id say the burrito was 30% smaller / less filling than a guzman burrito which usually makes me feel full. Probably won't have it again, but I did enjoy it. We also tried the tofu cupbap. That was really nice. Tofu is fried beautifully and it's a nice/ lighter feeling meal which really contrasted the burrito...
Read moreDefinitely some of the best food in Melbourne. An absolute hidden gem :') I have been here multiple times and the food has never missed. Everyone I have introduced this place to has said the same! Food quality is insanely good, and the staff are the loveliest people I have ever met. Some recommendations from me include the Rose tteobokki, japchae and korean friend chicken.
Special shoutout to the team for going above and beyond in service: We brought over a cake to celebrate a friend's birthday and the team helped us keep, cut and serve the cake :) You could tell they really care about their customers and service with the way they graciously treated us even though it was near closing time.
We love you gangjung
Read moreI’m always slightly skeptical about a place with close to all 5 star reviews but this place lived up to the hype!
Fried chicken and twigim had a thin, light batter - very crispy and flavourful. We got the soy garlic sauce on the side which was the right choice as it was on the slightly sweeter side, but still bloody delicious.
Beef bulgogi cupbap was really exciting with a good variety of textures and flavours - sweet (maybe slightly too sweet) and smoky beef, crunchy and refreshing salad, bit of a kick from the kimchi and an egg with a good runny yolk over warm rice. Goes really well with their bean chilli sauce. Doesn’t get much better than that.
Cosy and homey environment, friendly service,...
