The Grandview Hotel is a bit of a hidden gem in Fairfield. From the exterior, it doesn’t look too flashy but its interiors and newly updated bistro area uphold the “old English pub” atmosphere which we love. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. However I always wondered why the Grandview doesn’t normally have many patrons, the front bar offers food service during public holidays, unfortunately some of the regular patrons in our most recent visit were extremely off putting whilst we were trying to have lunch as a family. Patrons were loud, swearing and yelling over the top of other people trying to have lunch in the front bar (the bistro was closed due to PH on Boxing Day), not once did any of the staff intervene when two patrons were having an abusive argument with one another inside the pub. One of the staff even sat with the group but didn’t intervene. This was extremely off putting and very uncomfortable. The group was well and truly intoxicated as wreaked of alcohol and slurring words. It would be great if staff could have intervened as this is not something that should be observed by others trying to...

There are a few eating areas, one with a fireplace, one near the live stage, and the beer garden. I believe you can get table service regardless of where you sit, but the dining areas have separate menus and their specials change depending on the day.
As a pub, the beer and wine selection is excellent, featuring local staples like Furphys and Carlton Draught as well as some more esoteric drinks every now and then, which is nice. The atmosphere is very comfortable, and it's lovely to be able to burn logs on an open fire during wintertime.

Read morePoorly lit and poorly heated. There was no one else in the dark glacial dining room of a Saturday night so atmosphere was lacking though the privacy did somewhat suit us given we had two toddlers in tow. The Parma is serviceable but the sauce it hardly flavoursome. Tasted very much like a coles brand passata atop a piece of chicken. Flavour was not lacking in the chips however which were completely overloaded with salt to the point where my blood pressure may never be the same. There was no cakeage which was a redeeming feature of the evening but it’s not a venue I’ll be returning...
