We bought two banh mi’s from To’s bakery which is well known for quality and taste. On this occasion the generosity was lacking. Their portion sizes have dramatically changed. They are now giving sprinklings of what they used to. This was very disappointing. The roll was very nice and thin and wasn’t dense. The ingredients have a very high standard and the flavour was spot on. The crispy pork was delicious but not much of. I think the new economic climate in Victoria has affected yet another food institution in a negative way. Price has gone up and portion sizes have gone down. This formula is a recipe for disaster in the long term for these eateries. Affordable eats as this place is supposed to be needs to be affordable and generous. This is what made them popular in the first place. Remove that ingredient and failure is sure to follow. There was a little too much mayo and I also suspect that they use msg as I have a sensitivity to it. P.S the picture is generic just to give an example of the...
Read moreI ordered the crispy pork banh mi for $10.50, along with a spring roll and chicken, which brought my total to around $13.50. Overall, the banh mi wasn't bad, but it did lack a bit of meat compared to other places. However, considering the price of $10.50 for everything, it's hard to complain.
There wasn't much crispy pork inside; the crispiness seemed to come from the croutons they added, so I'm not sure if I received enough actual crispy pork. I've been to Nhu Lan plenty of times but wanted to try something different today. It was decent, but not amazing.
The bread here was a bit less crispy than at Nhu Lan, but it had more of a bready texture, which I don't mind. The crispy chicken could have used more flavor in the batter, and the spring roll was quite greasy, but it was still enjoyable as a side. Overall, for the price, I can't...
Read moreAs a fan of banh mi, I recently stopped by To's Bakery in Footscray to see what all the fuss was about. Located on a busy street in the heart of Footscray, To's Bakery can get quite crowded on Sundays, so it's important to be clear with your order to avoid any mix-ups.
Despite the busy atmosphere, the staff at To's Bakery were efficient and friendly, and my order was ready in no time. The Crispy Pork Banh Mi was the standout dish, with succulent slices of pork and a variety of fresh, flavorful toppings. The bread was also of high quality, with a crispy exterior and a soft, pillowy interior.
Overall, the prices at To's Bakery are on par with other banh mi spots in the area, and the quality of the food is definitely worth the visit. If you're in the mood for a delicious banh mi in Footscray, To's Bakery is a...
