ORDERED SEP 2025: 🍜 N1. Viet spicy noodle soup ($19.00) 🫘 T4. Salt and pepper fried tofu ($24.00)
REVIEW: 2 bowls and a plate of salt and pepper fried tofu is now our go to order. Between 3 girls, we were so full.
The chef who fried the salt and pepper tofu on the Friday night did a phenomenal job. Crispy and even as the tofu cooled down, still retained its crunch. We're going to have this dish again next time! ORDERED OCT 2024: 🍜 Viet Spicy Lemongrass Noodle Soup (Bun bo hue) ($17.00) 🫘 Salt n Pepper Deep Fried Tofu (Tau hu rang muoi) ($20.00) 🍚 Fried Rice with Beyond Beef (Com Chien Bo Tai Beyond) ($22.00)
It was $29.50 for my portion! This was shared between two.
REVIEW: Huong Viet is a unique casual Vietnamese restaurant that purely makes vegetarian/vegan food. A feat, when Vietnamese cuisine is typically meat heavy. 🤩
✔️ The vegan lemongrass didn't taste like the traditional meaty bun bo hue, but it was still delicious. The portions are generous so there's plenty of food to go around! 🙂 You can add more spice to the bbh, if you choose, because they give a heaping amount on a little side plate. ✔️ Fried rice had that delicious charcoal flavour, which gives it that extra smokiness that you can't get at home... unless you have a more professional set up. It certainly helps to justify ordering it at the restaurant! ❌ Tofu are cut up into smaller chunks. This means you miss out on the opportunity to enjoy the appreciate a good quality tofu that's softer in the middle and the crispier outside. Nonetheless, they do provide it with soy sauce so you can add more umami flavour.
There's a credit card surcharge, so bring cash if you'd like to avoid the charge. Service is friendly and standard for a...
Read moreThis little vegan/vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant is located on Leeds st. It's your typical Vietnamese restaurant set up, tissue box on table, cutlery and a chilli oil on the table. The waiter was friendly and had these massive over ear headphones on but it didnt affect his hearing, had me wondering what he was listening too 😅
We ordered the spring rolls and banh hoi, a d.i.y rice paper roll with fried "fish". Let's start with the spring rolls. They come in a serving of 4 and they are massive. Over half the length of a tablespoon and almost as wide as half the spoon itself 😲. It comes with a generous amount of lettuce and mint and a vegan fish sauce. It taste quite similar to normal fish sauce actually. The inside is what you'd find in a typical vego spring roll 5/5.
The banh hoi was very interesting, enough to share between two you get a mount of greens, a small jug of peanut chilli dipping sauce and a plate of fine vermicelli and this fried loaf looking thing on top. You're provided with a pair of scissors to cut the "fish" into smaller pieces. The "fish" is quite unique, it's very hard to explain the flavour, it's savoury and a bit seafoodish from the seaweed. Being fried it's nice and crispy when you bite into it. Inside it's not rubbery or mushy nor does it taste like tempeh as most mock meat does. Also there's a process on how to eat this. Dip the rice paper into the water provided, put a layer of vermicelli and some "fish". Then your greens and roll it up like a rice paper roll 4/5.
Overall I enjoyed the experience and didn't miss the meat component at all. I'll definitely be back to try their authentic soups like pho, bun bo hue...
Read moreIncredibly disappointing service. We asked if they could make us a takeaway Vietnamese ice coffee. (Google maps indicated it was served here)
They said yes, and charged $8 for one small cup 😭 After one of the guys took our order we did mention that we had a train soon, and asked if it was realistic for it to be made in 5 minutes. He said ‘yes’ but then completely wandered off & then it looked like he replaced himself with another clueless guy. I then saw this other guy start finally start on the order. He then saw us standing there waiting for the simple drink to be made and said ‘what can I get you’ I said ‘please continue making the drink’ he said ‘yes’ and then handed me an menu. After seeing this guy wash stuff, second guess himself in regards to what to do, then go back to re-washing the same stuff I spoke up and said ‘I have train to catch…do you think you could hurry up a bit?’ He said ‘yes’ He then handed me this abomination of a ‘Viet coffee’ which would have disappointed anyone who cares about representing a Vietnamese drink. Man didn’t even add the condensed milk which is one of the only two ingredients used. I understand this place says they service ‘vegan and vegetarian’ food, but condensed food is vegetarian. I also...
