Pho Hung Vuong Saigon is a modern Vietnamese restaurant located on Hopkins St, Footscray. There is street parking available and plenty more slots in the adjacent block.
The shop is fitted with giant glass windows facing the main road, letting in plenty of natural light and setting a lovely ambience. The walls are decorated with their menu and two televisions can be found on opposite sides of the restaurant. The restaurant is outfitted with a contemporary layout that styles well for all audiences.
Complimentary tea is offered alongside tiny disposable paper cups. The menu is simple – a double-sided laminated piece of paper. Pho Hung Vuong Saigon dabbles in minimal entrée dishes. Spring rolls or rice paper rolls. The main menu is similar in that regard: choose pho (A Vietnamese rice noodle served with broth) or a rice dish. I actually quite enjoy this kind of minimalistic menu. Less is more.
Of course, Pho Hung Vuong Saigon is well known for its pho more than anything else. The only difference between all the phos offered is the choice of topping. Traditional Vietnamese pho is served with raw sliced beef that is cooked in the piping hot broth. Some people may wish to opt for other beef parts such as tripe, tendon or offal (organ meats - an acquired taste). Chicken is also available if beef is not your thing. For the general population, I suggest the traditional sliced beef pho.
Our dishes arrived promptly after ordering. We were also given a complimentary plate of sides, which included lemon, chilli, beansprouts and Asian basil. A word of warning – the chilli they serve here is extremely spicy! One whiff had me giddy. Proceed with caution!
Pho Hung Vuong Saigon is generous with its portions. There is a hearty amount of meat included and a fantastic ratio of rice noodles to boot. The broth is marvellously clear and drizzled with fresh spring onions. Each spoonful of soup was a flavourful delight. The noodles were soft and tender and perfectly complemented with the succulent beef. I enjoyed this meal down to the very last drop.
I ordered the pho with sliced beef and chicken while my partner ordered the sliced beef one. We were both very pleased with every component of our dish. No dry meat, no rubbery chicken, only great quality food.
Just be aware, Pho Hung Vuong Saigon has a surcharge if you are paying electronically. Best to support local businesses (and your wallet) by bringing cash!
Pho Hung Vuong Saigon is a fantastic embodiment of traditional pho. Traditional pho takes hours to prepare and is practically a form of art. Pho Hung Vuong Saigon has mastered this artistry and you can taste it for a very reasonable price ($15.00 for a medium at this time of writing – January 2022). I guarantee it will leave you satisfied and full. The food in this restaurant is worth every dollar.
For those who are interested, Pho Hung Vuong Saigon has a sister shop Springvale (called Pho Hung Vuong) who is owned by the same family. The broth is slightly different but shares the...

This restaurant runs like a well oiled, efficiency breathing machine that perfectly suits groups of up to 6 looking for a quick and fulfilling bite to eat. So long as you don’t mind sharing a table with strangers, this establishment will have you seated, ordered and a hot steaming bowl of pho in front of you in 10 minutes on average and sometimes you’ll even see your food before your drinks! Now while we all love fast and efficient service, the general reading of the room is that the staff expect that efficiency to reciprocate with their patrons. With the cutlery and napkins available to you in a self serve basis on the table, drinks served in recyclable plastic takeaway cups and during peak hour, lines out the door and down Hopkins St the feel is to get in, enjoy a meal, and make way for the next people to eat.
From the pho to the rice paper rolls nothing here disappoints. With every bowl of pho you’re also served a plate chocked full of fresh bean shoots, fresh sliced chilli, coriander and lemon wedges. Pairing this with the spicy sriracha and sweet hoisin sauce available on the table you’re able to tweak the soup exactly to your desires. The pho is offered in 3 sizes (small, medium and large) and personally I’ve never needed more than a small size as the portions are generous and the looks can be deceiving. From the moment the bowl is set down in front of you the first thing to notice is the thin beef in the bowl is still raw, but as your stir the bowl and take your first sips the thinly shaved slices cook in the steamy hot broth right before your eyes. The first taste is an explosion of rich beefy and fragrant goodness and only gets better with every spoonful paired with the soft rice noodles and the tender, flavourful beef it leaves no room for improvement in a delicious and surprisingly affordable bowl of soup.
After a decisive search for my perfect bowl of pho, Huong Viet Saigon fulfils my desire for rich and cleansing goodness and is a powerful reminder of the gems still hidden in plain sight on the bustling and diverse streets...
Read moreI'm Vietnamese so I definitely know what's a good pho and what makes a bad one. But I've been to a few of the highly rated pho restaurants now in Melbourne and I have to say, this one was a good one. The rice noodles they use in the soup, is very soft in texture and the broth isn't too thick, nor too watered down. I chose the Special Chicken Combination (with offals) and most chicken can be dry in noodle soups but this was perfect. There were some chicken bits that had skin on it but I like a bit of skin. The offals were a good mix and I'm glad they offer this dish. The menu itself was basic, but if it's renowned for Vietnamese noodle dishes, it should be its main focus. They do offer rice dishes like the broken rice with pork and rice vermicelli dishes too. I did order an entree dish of Spring Rolls. They were a bit disappointing especially for the price. They were small and didn't have a lot of filling in them. Not worth $9 for 6 rolls. Although, they were tasty. I prefer my spring rolls bigger and more filling.
The restaurant itself is big, and the turnover of customers is super quick. It's an efficient service which is expected in a well known restaurant like this. On the front of the restaurant, it has "You've tried the rest but you're yet to try the best"...something like that. I wouldn't say it is the best but it's definitely in the top 3!
PS. CASH ONLY! (They do have an independent ATM within the restaurant but there a lots of ATMs outside of...
