Tokyo Deli — Restaurant in Melbourne

I have been going to Tokyo Deli for years and would be honestly their number one customer - I am in for lunch every day and often take my kids and spend a fortune there. I really enjoy the food although it is expensive and hand rolls are small but that’s ok for me.

Unfortunately it’s coming to an end and I won’t be returning as there is a major service issue. I have been very very frustrated as I am lining up and usually a middle aged lady will cut (not always deliberate) in the line - straight to the register order and go and I and others in the queue will be shacking our heads in disbelief 🙉

There is a very simple fix and I won’t be returning until I look in the window and see a rope running down the side of the counter so customers understand there is a line up system and to go to the back of the store.

Fresh ingredients and taste. Rather "western" style japanese sushi and hot meals menu - with respect to the fillings and taste which is likely why a lot of children dine here. Very suitable for kids.

Please let staff know when you are making your order if you plan to dine in as they will serve it to you on a nice japanese plate and provide you with a soy sauce dish to prevent waste!

(Staff neither encourage or discourage people dining in to opt out of single use plastic - the bins are always full of plastic sushi containers from people eating in!) I also think it is crazy that ginger is only available in tiny plastic containers with lids even when dining in. It would be even better if they encouraged BYO takeaway container (as I once saw an admirable mum do!) or at least use paper bags for single roll purchases.

Worst ever..I ordered a take away for curry rice with $9.50 and yes it is only half-filled rice with few drips of curry sauce. It is already bad for not having any meat in the curry sauce, but there is no tofu as well or whatsoever. Technically there is nothing on this curry rice. This is not even worth $5 meal. I showed it to all my colleagues and everyone said that this is a complete rip off. The curry sauce was not like amazingly tasty cause this is obviously made with curry instant pack, it tasted plain. From all my experience in my whole life, this is the worst Japanese restaurant I ever tasted so far. If anyone thinks that they serve good Japanese food, please let me know. I know tones of Japanese restaurants that served 100 times better than this rip-off restaurant. very disappointing and I will never ever in my whole life go...
