Untitled has made a mark on my must dine local places in Richmond.
My partner and I went on a Saturday night in February and had an amazing seat in the corner booth looking out on to Swan Street. This also meant we could see the beautiful bar and through to the kitchen.
About the food: To start the night we had the Risi e Bisi’ Arancini, pea, ricotta and the Burrata, sweet corn, vadouvan. Of the two we will definitely be having the Arancini when we return. The vidouvan was interesting giving the dish a curry flavour. The burrata was quite dense in texture and in fact I think it was mozzarella. I will definitely explore something else next time. Mains We shared the Murray cod fillet, roasted cucumber, harissa, sesame and the Porchetta, almond, grapes, sorrel. Both were amazing but the porchetta was mind blowingly good. The almond part of the dish is a beautiful almond and sesame purée that give it a tahini like flavour. The combination of the pork, sweet grapes and this purée was a hit and I’ll be trying to recreate it at home. The cod was perfectly cooked and the spicy sauce was delicious. My must have will be the porchetta!
Wine Great selection and the staff were knowledgeable and guided us through the options.
Staff Wonderfully attentive and welcoming from the time I popped in to make my booking and through our our experience. Our waitress was so kind confirm even what was in the porchetta purée for us. Throughout the night we had a level of service that meant plates were cleared as they were finished whilst not being invasive.
Venue Ok it’s beautiful I’m just saying I am claiming my corner booth seat overlooking swan. The leather is soft and comforting and I hope it maintains its rich leather smell. Whilst being on the ground floor the second floor opens up to a larger dining area. I would also be very happy to sit at the beautiful bar similar to a chefs table. Which I love and reminds me of my Victor Churchill experience. I might be getting older but noise impacts my enjoyment of my dining experience. We were there on a Saturday and it was not an issue. The combination of soft furnishings and textured walls is likely to play out here. So you can enjoy an intimate conversation with your date.
So why not a 5 star… the food was great some hits and misses but was a 4 based on our order. Staff 5 the thing for me it is always issues around the price of sparkling water $10 and the $20 for a espresso martini and the price for most cocktails is around this. Might be just me but the mark up on sparkling water is high and whilst consistent with a lot of places. This being drinks down to 3 Venue was a 4. Will I be back...
Read moreHad ourselves an impressive dinner at Untitled a few weeks back! From the moment you walk in you just know you’re in for something special as you’re welcomed by high ceilings, leather touches and marble tables in a modern, intimate space.
The service was nothing short of attentive - shoutout to Flynn who was not only a great sport to have a laugh with, but was able to group our order so that our experience could be savoured and enjoyed the best way possible!
We ordered: 🐟 Kingfish Crudo (4/5): fresh, clean taste - just missing a creamy topping to give it that extra star it’s missing
🌽 Burrata w/ sweet corn & vadouvan (3.5/5): Loved the sweet corn with the cheese and the earthy, crunchy texture of the vadouvan leaves! Didn’t love how dense the cheese had been presented especially considering it’s usually the centre of attention; sadly felt like were just biting into a really good mozzarella instead.
🦪 Fresh Oysters w/ celery mignonette (5/5): Smooth, creamy and an absolute delight!
🍘 Arancini w/ peas & ricotta (5/5): Would order this dish over and over again! Rich, however not heavy in flavour - and that accompanying sauce is just too addicting!
🍃 Gnocchi & Duck Ragu (5/5): A very memorable main for us - so comforting, so aromatic and the meal everyone enjoys without the need to say a single word! A popular dish that is definitely due its recognition, especially with the added tender duck breast 🤤
🍖 Porchetta w/ almond, grapes and sorrel (5/5): A meaty experience that had the best of both sweet and salty worlds! The grapes and the almond & sesame sauce paired beautifully with the pork and created a divine ending to our meal.
Untitled has definitely made a mark on our top places to dine in Melbourne and we can’t wait to come back and enjoy the experience in a...
Read moreHighs: croquettes were delicious. A well fit out venue with a nice romantic and warm vibe. Food came out at a good pace once ordered.
Lows: cold (seemingly stale?) focaccia. Overpriced market fish for size of serving, and skin was not crispy but chewy there were 2 waiters on for 2 tables and even then we had to wait for 10 mins after our drinks before anyone took our food order. Note that they were just standing there not paying attention and I had to wave them down 3 times to get any sort of service to get our food ordered! when we inquired about which steak was less fatty to order, the waitress said the Wagyu steak (which was surprising as one of the most marbled steaks on offer). We said we’d grab that based on the information she provided. When the steak arrived at the table she had instead ordered us the more expensive and larger sized scotch fillet which we did not order one of the waiters smelt aggressively of smoke / cigarettes all night rigatoni was below average. Pasta not al dente and flavours not exciting. You’d cook a better pasta at home.
All in all, it was a bit of a miss and I would not be back or recommending this venue considering how many great wine bars are...
