Lost the plot is probably the way I would describe it. Perhaps this is some Melbourne coffee snobbery I don’t get, but being greeted with a huge sign it’s hard to walk past saying “wait to be seated” and then having to stand there barely inside the door, whilst common in Restaurants, is not in cafes. It’s fine if there is a person whose job it is to meet and greet people but you stand there as the cafe works away. Then you don’t get a menu just a QR code. If you don’t use that you’re handed a small menu without all the items on it and it’s counter service. Look, if the prices reflected the fact that we’re doing the ordering for them that’s fine, but this place is expensive!!!! I mean for $5.20 you get a flat white which is 4 sips of coffee. It’s a brilliant coffee. That’s for sure. But this push to make the customer bend to what makes cafes job easier or more cost effective whilst charging high prices ($33 chicken and salad, $30 burgers with chips) is beyond reasonable. I have a Vanetziano Roastery just down the road in Brisbane and it’s friendly and welcoming and the coffee is great and I would never ‘complain’ about them ever. But this huge Roastery in the center of coffee culture in the universe is so...
Read moreWent in for lunch last Saturday.
On entering the venue and asking for a table the girl at the door just looked at us. My husband then said can we sit anywhere and the girl said yes.
After sitting down the girl asked what we wanted to drink. We asked if we could have a look at the menu and she point to the QR code on the table.
On her return we gave her our drinks order and before we could say what we wanted to eat she was gone. Did not ask if we wanted anything to eat, just disappeared. Our drinks arrived and still we were not asked what we would like to eat. Actually we didn’t really have an opportunity as she placed our drinks and quickly left.
At this point we decided that the seven floor staff who were roaming around the venue were far to busy to ask the simple question “are you after anything to eat”. We finished our drinks and surprisingly the girl who took our order promptly appeared to grab the empty cups asking “oh have you finished”. To which the reply was, yes.
Very disappointing experience given they were not busy and the floor staff were standing around talking.
Needless to say we went to another venue and enjoyed a lovely lunch with...
Read moreThe food is good here but coffee is king. As they roast and supply specialty coffee for cafes nationwide, it was the best place to try a Barista Breakfast Coffee Flight.
From their house blend to their single-origin espresso, filter, and batch brew, it's basically a brew for every personality, even those drinking almond decaf lattes right now.
It's just a shame about the price.. add a 10% charge on weekends and you're looking at nearly $8 for a "normal" size latte. God help you if you are after an extra shit and/or speciality milks.
Savoury being their forte, sweet is also covered thanks to those heavenly baked goods including this Twice Baked Apple Crumble Croissant from Penny for Pound.
The menu is tight and again for the price, portions aren’t massive, so it’s not a cheap venture but the food is quality. The Shakshuka was as colourful as it was as flavourful and I loved that the Mushroom Meledy included stracciatella as the cheese (often hard to come by in brunch fare).
And who doesn't love a perfect egg pop?
Service could be better but it was busy so I won't hold it against them, seems unfortunate because otherwise this...
