This week we were invited to visit Niche on Bridge. Niche on Bridge is not your typical Melbourne cafe. Even in the middle of a refit, it was sleek, suave and reminded me more of a hotel restaurant than a Richmond eatery. This place oozes professionalism and all staff were smart and polite leaving the feel of a place I’d be happy to host a business meeting, and well as somewhere comfortable enough to dine with my family.

We were there early and ordered from their brunch menu. I went for the blueberry and ginger pancakes (they are more like hotcakes), which I have to say were the biggest and best I’ve had so far. It is literally a hot cake – being the size of and thickness of a small sponge cake. Proudly described as “their most instagrammable dish” it plates beautifully, but also tastes amazing. Despite being delicious, the portion size is crazy large – making it great value, and it would be ideal to share as a sweet treat or as a breakfast dessert after ordering a lighter main each.

My other half ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and hash brown. The presentation matched niches sleek image, and he found all elements enjoyable. He particularly noted the hash brown – which to me looked like a large triangular chip and got two thumbs up from him. My latte was very enjoyable. The coffee here is strong and sharp, with a slight bitter taste.

Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to Niche, and while not a huge cafe, it’s a comfortable size. The food is high quality, and well plated, with generous portions. Definitely worth stopping by if you are...

As a funeral director, I engage the catering services of Niche On Bridge on a regular basis. Whether the funeral is at one of our funeral homes, at a church, or any other external venue, the Niche team never fail to deliver the highest standard of customer service, presentation, and of course the food tastes amazing. I recently had a funeral service at a church on a Saturday, where Daniel and the team went above and beyond. The family were of Filipino descent, and had very specific requests about what food they would like served. Daniel spoke to the family to create a fully custom menu, to not only meet their requirements, but exceed them. Daniel liaised with the parish secretary in the leadup to the funeral to discuss what the kitchen was like, what equipment was available etc, and he went out to the church with the chef to personally inspect the premises. On the day, there were a number of issues with the church’s equipment, which was completely out of Niche’s control, however the team had a backup plan and managed to execute their catering services without a hitch. The family were extremely happy with the food and...

Another day, another networking meeting with Fresh. Today was at a cafe that I’ve driven by often but never stopped. So glad I got to try this today. It has a great space for groups with its own separate bar and servery area. There is also a tv for presentations with comfortable seating and flexible layout. Our breakfast was $20 for the group with a choice of around 5-6 items including s hot beverage. They were happy to tweak the order when I said no mushrooms and added avocado instead at no cost. The main cafe area was pleasantly busy at 8am with a mixed range of people from couples, singles, business, mums with prams etc. it’s a large cafe so lots of space to spread out. The main menu is good with lots of choices. Portion sizes are good. Coffee great. Dietaries are easily catered for. Takeaway food also available. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Highchairs available. Good parking out the front and in side streets. Finally and probably most importantly - the staff are lovely. Very helpful and eager to please. I...

Visited Niche on Bridge and tried the Chicken Fajita sizzling hotplate, which isn’t something you usually see at a café and it was a nice surprise. Came out hot with chicken, roasted capsicum, and all the extras — sour cream, avo, salsa, and three tortillas. Good flavour, solid portion, and fun to put together. I did wish they gave one or two more tortillas because I polished them off pretty quick. The hotplate kept everything warm, but it did get a bit greasy by the end. Tried a bit of the Nasi Goreng which had decent flavour and a nice kick, but it was also on the oily side — more than I’d like, especially after trying versions overseas that felt a bit cleaner. The calamari was a standout in terms of value — massive portion and cooked well. Overall, a good café spot with a bit of variety on the menu. Nothing over the top, but definitely worth a visit if you’re around the area.

Niche on Bridge is very unassuming and easily passed for many other fancier more well known venues in bridge. However it's always busy as those in the know, know it has the most consistent coffee around along with super friendly staff and a fantastic menu that has something for everyone, breakfast or lunch. This place really does feel like a home away from home as the vibe and staff are great. The food here will not wow you, but constantly deliver exactly what you want. Good quality, good portion and flavours and a menu that covers kids, adults, from eggs to burgers. A definite favourite that has earnt it's stripes over many years
