Japanese eatery with amazing menu selection located on Port Melbourne’s main shopping street.

🐷 Tonkatsu set $24.00 🐍Unagi tamagoyaki $30.00 🐟 Grilled salmon donburi $25.00 🍤 Ebi Fry $10.00 🐟 Seafood combo $25.00 🍙 Onigiri set $15.00 🍵 “Tea” ramisu $12.00 🍮 Japanese Pudding $12.00 ☕️ Miso caramel latte $5.50 🍵 Matcha latte $5.50

While the tonkatsu is not prepared the typical way, I found the addition of seasonings in the coating especially tasty. The cut was quite thick and meaty, with nice fatty ends.

The donburis were also stars of the show. Salmon was fatty and tasty with grilled aroma. There was good amount of sauce to coat the rice and furikake to enhance the flavour. As for the unagi it was generally tender, but leaving it too long can lead to rubberiness, so beware!

For the onigiri I liked that mentaiko roe was dispersed throughout the rice resulting in tiny flavoursome bursts.

The Tea-ramisu had half half matcha and hojicha, was a tad too moist for me and personally didn’t quite hit the spot.

I preferred the Japanese pudding, the sauce seemed to have a saltier flavour yet harmonised well with the sweet caramel taste.

Definitely keen to try the noodle and sando...

I just paid $25 for a bowl of rice! 😖 I’ve eaten here is several times and despite it being slightly OTT cost wise, the flavours have always been amazing. After getting off an international flight being absolutely exhausted on a hot day I felt like a pokey bowl.

I ordered one, ready ingredients and thought great. but when I got the bowl, there were just a few toppings on top of a massive mound of rice that was hot and there went my salad idea. I’m not experienced a pokey bowl that is such bad quality. And for the price, it’s simply out of control. Disappointing for a place that had high hopes. I also looked at the recipe and asked for no onion which I always do and they assured me there was nothing in the meal. Now that I’m eating it it is full of onion, which I’m allergic to, so again, doubly disappointed I would love to recommend this place as a local but that’s just not...

Probably more like a 4.5 star rating, but definitely above 4!

As a local I saw this store pop up recently, with a whole bunch of 5-star reviews and the first thing I thought was "is this legit?"

So I gave it a try today - I got a takeaway Pork Katsu Curry for $23.

And it was really nice! The curry was an authentic Japanese style and flavour, with an emphasis on brown onion, and it had lovy soft chunks of carrot and potato. The katsu very nice too, it was soft and tender with the crumbing giving it a nice bite, and it blended in well with the curry. I'd probably say the curry was a level-up on the katsu though. The all important ratio of curry-to-rice was spot on too!

The staff were very nice and friendly, and the food came out...

Yo-sho is a great addition to the Melbourne Japanese Cafe scene! I don’t normally post but both the food and service was so good that I had to! We ordered the breakfast set and the lunch set and both were such good value due to both the quantity and quality of what you get. Out of everything we tried today, I highly recommend the tuna onigiri and the karaage. The tuna onigiri was definitely the best version of this that I’ve had in Melbourne, very flavourful due to the addition of mentaiko in there. And the karaage was well marinated so once fried they were the perfect crispy bite. Can’t wait to come again to try the rest of the menu!

We’ve ordered the: Tantanmen is spicy but not greasy. The noodles are very chewy and the taste is good. The soup is also delicious. It's really recommended Gyudon (beef rice bowl ) The sauce of beef makes it more delicious, a large portion, it's worth ordering this dish. For snacks: Ebi fry, takoyaki, fries, Japanese pudding, JFC, the heat is just right, the outer skin has a crispy texture, and the more you eat, the more delicious the pudding becomes Drinks : I ordered Yuzu Lemonade and Cucumber Melon Soda, both were very delicious, suitable for taking photos as well.
