Went into Okane sushi by myself a little before 6pm yesterday, and there was almost a full house. I say almost because there was only 1 empty table adjacent to the conveyor belt remaining.
However, on walking in, on seeing that I was alone, I was immediately told "there's no more tables next to the train, but you can sit over there" pointing to a table near the door...
The whole point of "sushi train" is selecting dishes off the conveyor without having to plan ahead by ordering each and every bite...
And what's with not offering certain tables to single diners, should be on a first-come basis!!
In any case, it's your loss more than mine. I normally eat about twice as much as my wife, so probably would've ordered just as much food as the couple (non-existent at that point) you saved that last table for. I also don't cook much and eat out frequently (ask the staff at noodle world on 15th, I'm there a few times every week).
I'm not a backpacker or a tourist - I live and work in Mildura year-round, I have a wife and family, friends, co-workers.
I don't think Mildura is big enough for a new business like yours to be discriminating against single diners, since those single diners may likely have family & friends they regularly eat with as well.
Okane is NOT the only place to get sushi, but it is the only place where I have felt unwelcomed when dining alone.
For anyone else reading this looking for a quick meal as a single diner, best to move on and look elsewhere. Okane Sushi clearly neither wants nor needs your custom. It's similar to those illegal sharehouses dotted around town: Why allow 1 tenant (diner?) to have a room (table?) to themselves, when a potentially much larger group can be accommodated (seated?) in the same space?...
Read moreI recently dined at Okane Sushi and left with a palate that was thoroughly satisfied. The salmon fried rice I ordered was an absolute delight. The perfectly cooked rice, combined with the succulent pieces of salmon, created a harmonious blend of flavors that left me longing for more. The accompanying seaweed salad was a refreshing and vibrant addition, adding a delightful crunch to the dish.
The miso soup served alongside the salmon fried rice was a comforting and soothing complement. Its savory and rich broth, coupled with the delicate tofu and scallions, was a perfect balance of flavors that warmed my soul.
Another highlight of my experience at Okane Sushi was the eel rice. The succulent and delicate eel, accompanied by the same seaweed salad and miso soup, was a treat for my taste buds. The combination of the tender eel and the fragrant rice created a heavenly medley of textures and tastes that I found simply irresistible.
The attention to detail in the presentation of the dishes was also commendable. Each plate was beautifully arranged, showcasing the freshness and quality of the ingredients.
The staff at Okane Sushi were attentive and friendly, ensuring a pleasant dining experience from start to finish. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing meal.
Overall, I highly recommend Okane Sushi for its delicious and satisfying food. Whether you're a fan of the salmon fried rice or the delectable eel rice, you are sure to find a dish that will leave you craving for more. Don't miss out on the opportunity to indulge in a truly delightful culinary experience at...
Read moreA small yet busy place, the sushi train runs in a tight oval shape with the kitchen at one end.
There is one staff member at front of house who also plates takeaway items (Taken off the sushi train and put in containers).
Price doesn’t really reflect the quality , I guess I went in with high hopes. What seems to work well at other sushi trains is when all your sushi train dishes are the same price , it’s just the portion size which differs.
At this place, there is still of course the option to order items from a menu, the menus are laminated and on your table, and it appears you need to go to the front counter for these as there is no table service.
They may benefit from a glass door display fridge , specifically for food items, where people can come in and select their own packaged takeaway , this will free up the lady at front of house to do table service and tend to their dine in customers better.
In future, I would be inclined to go elsewhere in Mildura for sushi as there was nothing “Wow”...
