We went here for my mum’s birthday dinner. Don't you just love family meals? I mean parents are parents right, what you gunna do, but when my mum launched right into the story about how and why I did not like yellow rice as a kid, I was pretty sure the night was not going to end well. Let me set the scene. Back in about 1984 the world was a happy place for me. Well happyish. I had food, clothes and never really wanted for much. I was a good eater as a kid. Once I even bet my brother I could eat 6 full helpings of roast dinner at Grandmas place one Sunday and pulled it off without throwing up. I forget what we bet but I can be sure he never paid up. There was one thing though. I did not eat yellow (Saffron) rice. My brother had convinced me they made it yellow by cooking it in urine as opposed to water and that to me did not seem like such a great idea to eat. Anyhow mum went and cooked saffron rice one time and I refused to eat it. My brother can probably confirm it was about the only thing I ever refused to eat. Mum saw red, and after much yelling and screaming threw me to the floor and sat on me (she was a big girl) held my nose and proceeded to attempt to force the rice down my throat. I mean we can laugh about it now, right? My only saving grace was I somehow managed to grit my teeth and spit a fair bit back in her face. Of course, my brother laughed his way through the whole thing. So anyhow mum still finds it funny and wanted to tell the waiter the story at the restaurant, but I gently reminded her that now days it is considered abuse to do the things in the 80s people called parenting, and the waiter diverted excellently and we went on to have a lovely meal. Great restaurant, great service, great food....
Read moreCame here on a recommendation with not knowing what to expect from a Vietnamese place in Mittagong. So far from Cabra and Canley it’s hard to raise a bar out here but me and my partner were left shocked. Amazing flavours on every dish. Fresh ingredients. Everything was perfect. Interesting uncommon dishes which were amazing to have after seeing repetitive dishes elsewhere. Loved the shaking beef and the stuffed spicy chicken especially. The ability to maintain such a juicy interior while maintaining a crispy exterior on the chicken was amazing. Shaking beef was like butter melting in our mouths.
The beef pho was not available which was a slight letdown but the brisket pho was still delicious. The pho I wouldn’t say is up there with 2 foodies or similar, it’s a filtered less traditional pho but still really nice, plus the brisket wasnt as fatty as most pho briskets which was a treat.
Stuffed prawns were an amazing entree, a spin on winter prawns with the...
Read moreThis is my second review of this restaurant as we have been going here for years since they opened and its our favourite asian restaurant in the highlands. We very frequently go here, as do my parents and also my daughter and her friends. The quality of the ingredients they use, especially the meat, is exceptional. The flavour and quality is always consistant (we have been here for both lunch/dinner and weeknights/weekends) the staff so pleasant, and the pricing very reasonable considering the high quality. I'd highly recommend the Tony's Chicken Roll, Grilled Fresh Pork Roll's and the Shaking Beef - its the only asian restaurant Ive been to where the beef is cut into large cubes (instead of thin and overcooked shrivelled strips) and is so succulent and cooked perfectly medium, absolutely delicious! All the dishes here are so fresh and as mentioned use such quality ingredients. Definately worth going to and never...
