Making the second egg optional (+$8) is a Benedict ($17) variation I hadn’t seen before. Flour Bar apply the same trick to one egg florentine, fungi and royale, with each offering set on a house-baked potato bun under a light, creamy hollandaise. Generously applied thinly sliced leg ham keeps it from feeling insubstantial, though it’d benefit from the layers being warmed. It leaves enough room to try sides like local Hot Canary smoked bacon ($7) or the cheesy herbed house-made hash brown ($6). The latter tasted strongly of robust olive oil, but it grew on me when dragged through hollandaise.

A generous skillet of Basque baked eggs ($18) over-delivers on chorizo and morcilla at the expense of cannellini beans in an intense tomato ragu. It’s tempered by toast and feta. Mecca coffee’s Moonwalker blend is robust as a strong flat white ($6.50) and cappuccino ($6.50).

Table spacing feels more generous in the Southern Highlands. Though, housed in a former bank, Flour Bar certainly has room to burn. Part of its floor space is taken up by a bottle shop (co-owner, Ben Shephard, was the sommelier at Biota). While breakfast browsing is permitted, purchases have to wait until after 10am. There are no such restrictions in the produce shop and bakery counter, where cookies, croissants, scrolls and what looked to be cheese sticks bearing charcuterie and leaves, tempt you on...

Beautiful feel good feelings at Flour Bar. I turned up at Flour Bar for lunch the other day with a flat phone battery and was looking for help to charge it whilst I lunched. Without phone battery I was in a dilemma - I had no money to buy lunch nor to look up directions to the appointment I was on my way to - nor the memory (battery or actual) to remember where the appointment was! Suffice to say I was in a flap. The staff were beautiful and I ordered a delicious Chai Latte and pastry whilst my phone was (meant to be!) charging. Only problem it wasn’t charging and when I came to pay for lunch I was without a way to pay. Not only did they tell me not to worry (comping my lunch which was incredibly generous) but also helped me with directions to my appointment. I was embarrassed but they wished me well and bid me well with a full tummy and even fuller heart. I will definitely be back (with my wallet and friends in tow) to thank them for their generosity. Highly recommend and hugely appreciative of...

Disappointing. We were in the area for an extended weekend away and ended up engaged on the trip. We chose this place to celebrate with dinner but the atmosphere was very off. We had wandered in during the day and loved the wine cellar section and thought we couldn’t go wrong with dinner. The sample menu online looked fantastic! Upon arrival, the atmosphere was lacking. I purchased a wine from the sparkling menu to start and when it arrived, it was flat. When questioned, the waitress told me it’s not your traditional sparkling. Then why is it in the sparkling section?! The menu wasn’t as impressive as the sample online but we found something each regardless. One of the mains (tortellini) was really great whilst the other (the lamb) was extremely bland. The sticky date pudding was quite lovely (perhaps just needed a little more sauce) and we ended with frankly the worst espresso martini I’ve ever had which just tasted like a cold filter coffee. The older couple...

We were stopping in at the end of rainy day wandering the area. Immediately struck by how friendly the staff were. The place has made great use of an old bank, you can still see the door of the safe. Its is very much clean modern lines, with a fireplace. High ceilings and cleans lines doesn’t cry cosy southern highlands. But if it is what you are after, this is your place. We had some very pretty pastries, but they were cold from the day. Which is disappointing in a cinnamon scroll. When asked they happily wacked it in the microwave. Which made it better. The tea was hot, kids lived their milkshakes, very sweet. No scones which was disappointing. There were some interesting things on the menu for a meal and the cocktails looked great. Not the right time for is though. I would recommend giving it a try for a meal.

The chefs here know flavour and how things pair and complement each other!! They haven't reinvented the wheel, just done things they know work in the best way possible. Really reasonably priced for the quality and vibe. Beautiful coffee, and friendly and frequent service makes the dining experience pleasant. The mini croissants are superbly buttery and crisp, the sandwiches are delicious and leave you wanting more. Plenty of tasty alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options. My only complaint is that I couldn't have one of everything on the menu. I guess I'll have to come back!
