TL;DR—Delicious, allergy friendly, noisy, cute, family friendly to a point, and reservations required for parties of 4 or more. SoHo Lane is a cute, crowded, centrally located cafe in Mount Lawley. The food, however, far surpasses any commentary on the decor or locale.

The menu is surprisingly diverse, with unique taste pairings and gorgeous presentation. It’s also consistently delicious, whether ordered in person and enjoyed on site, or ordered through a delivery app—which is an unexpected delight.

The menu is clearly marked for food allergies, and those who are coeliac or gluten sensitive will find plenty to choose from—even chicken and waffles and pancakes!

The only real downside to the cafe is the environment. Mind you, it’s super cute inside with a trendy retro diner feel with distinctly Asian “cutsy” elements, all of which is welcoming and a treat. But the noise levels inside the cafe—and even if you sit outside—are shockingly loud. They also play modern music in the background. Bring noise-canceling headphones for anyone who is noise sensitive. And if you or one of your party are hard of hearing, I would definitely sit outside.

Reservations are critical, especially on holidays and weekends, for parties of 4 or more. However, during the weekdays, it is quite easy to sidle up for a cuppa and a bite without any problem finding a seat.

While it is child friendly in terms of food, I don’t recommend bringing kiddos who can’t sit still. The cafe is small, and there’s no room for wandering.

Be sure to bring along your grocery bags, too—Fresh Foods grocery is right next door, and they have an incredible selection of imported and local foods and treats you don’t...

We used to visit SoHo Lane occasionally as a treat on a Saturday morning - being nearly an hour round trip from home. Unfortunately our most recent visit will be our last. The experience has changed from the brilliant cafe that I would have earned a 5 star rating in the past to a mediocre experience - just another cafe in Perth - with many better choices.

We were surprised at the change from table service for ordering - which detracts slightly from the experience, but this was the least of the changes that affects the rating given. The staff on our recent visit appear to have changed significantly - they are still pleasant to interact with at the counter, but otherwise seemed completely standoffish and almost disinterested in being there.

The food quality seems to have changed as well - while unable to put an exact expression to it, the food has gone from amazing to average even though the menu items haven’t changed. We noticed this on the previous visit as well but considered that it might have been an off day.

The cafe also seems to have lost some atmosphere - Saturday mornings are usually packed with a line for tables out the door - however the place was only around 3/4 capacity and didn’t have the same feel.

I do not think that this place deserves some of the recent 1 star reviews it has received - however it is definitely no longer a 5 star experience and is not worth travelling out of the...

Great place BUT ONLY IF you are white. The place has a great vibe, however, if you are ethnic then think twice!! We went there for breakfast today. The front staff told us there was a 45 mins wait. We said we will wait on the side. When we went in after 30 mins we were told the table has been given to someone else and there was another 20 mins of wait. We insisted that 'it was not fair' as we have already been waiting for 30+ mins. After insisting more, another staff member came and escorted us to a table that was already available, however, there was no apology👎. Overall, we did not feel welcomed at all!! In short, they have nice Turkish options but without the Turkish hospitality.

8/12/2022 (Responding to the reply below) Your comment says it all! I have nothing more to say except that I am literally "shocked" at your comment. Rather than looking into our negative customer experience with concern and responding to why we were denied a table even after waiting for the required time. Instead, you stated that I was instructed: “abuse would not be tolerated”. This is Absolutely Untrue, and a false accusation. This never happened!! Had you investigated the matter well, you would not have felt as you did. At no point in our conversation, we were abusive or even raised our voices. Please check your camera recordings and investigate before replying in...

We travelled from south of the river to try this place for brunch. It was busy but were seated straight away. Thats where anything good finished. We ordered large coffe (extra hot). It came luke warm in a standard cup. The food order was simple. Japanese pancakes for the wife and scrambled eggs with mushrooms for me. The couple who sat alongside us after we arrived received their orders before us. After 1/2 hr we asked to check where our order was. The waiter never returned. Asked the young lady and they said it was coming. My wife received her ( supposedly Japanese) pancackes. Nothing for me. Waited a bit longer and enquired again. My eggs with a side of mushrooms arrived. The knob of herb butter wasnt melting. Tried a mushroom. COLD. Asked the waiter to replace the mushrooms. 15 minutes later my wife had completed her (ordinary) pancakes and nothing had arrived for me. We decided to leave. The lady was going to charge us for the lot and I said I didn't even get my order. She said I wont charge you for your coffee. I also said not my dish either as I never got it. She asked if we wanted a coffee voucher. No thanks we will never be back. So much for instagram posts.

Visited SoHo Lane in Mt Lawley for brunch on a whim. We are rarely up that way, and I'm so glad we did. I had the best Chilli Chorizo Scrambled Eggs I've ever had! Apparently it's a new dish they've just added and it was downright delicious! Talk about a flavour kick. It was one of those rare times I didn't feel the need to reach for the salt and pepper, or wish for X, Y or Z to be added. It was perfect. From the flavour and texture, right down to the fresh sourdough bread (perfectly toasted and pre-buttered) and just melted in my mouth. I really wasn't expecting such a scrumptiously delicious dish, so what a delightful discovery. So flavoursome. Coffee was also good. Service was excellent too. Although it was packed at 12pm when we arrived. But they still found us a seat outside (with a basket of woolly blankies and throws available if you need some extra insulation from the cold). By 1pm it was much less crowded. Highly recommend a visit - if only for this particular dish.

We ordered pancake & chili chorizo which i think its on the new menu as what they have posted on Instagram. The chili chorizo was ok and has a decent portion but its not seasoned well coz its too BLAND. The pancake has enough portion size but its too DRY inside, the batter is too thick. Its too dry to eat. My husband didn’t finish the 3 stack of it, he just ate 1 and half. We asked the old lady for the maple syrup but she just ignored us thats how my husband went straightly to the kitchen and ask the chef for it. Maybe we’re just expecting too much on this cafe. We planned to visit this for 2 weeks and we’re just disappointed. Plating was good though, attractive but the taste is naaah. So my ratings are: Staff: 7/10 Food: 5/10 Place: 9/10 Sorry but I will not recommend this place to my colleagues.
