My friend and I visited recently and, from what we had seen online and read about the venue, it looked like a great place to enjoy a few cocktails on the balcony, followed by dinner. We found our way upstairs. There were two staff members behind the bar and when my friend told them we had booked a table, she was told "I don't know where you are sitting, you have to go and look for yourself". There was no smile, no greeting.....not very welcoming and actually, this statement was just rude. We went outside, found our table/barrel and then realised there was no drinks list nor menu. Being new to this establishment, we didn't understand how their system works, but it is usual to have a drinks list at your table. Soooo, I went inside, back to the bar where there are two drinks menus. I ask if I can take one. Yes, I could. Once my friend and I decided which cocktail we wanted, I went back inside and ordered. My payment went through and I just stood around, not really knowing their system.....do I wait?....do they bring the drinks to our table? They were not busy, yet didn't speak to me, knowing I was hanging around. They hadn't started making the drinks, so I went outside, thinking they might bring them out. And I waited..... Eventually I went back inside and made eye contact with the man behind the bar and he pointed to the drinks (on the other side to where I was standing) and said "Your drinks are there". No smile, no passing the drinks to me. I get that working in hospitality can be draining, but there was zero effort from either staff member to make us feel welcome and to hope that we enjoy our time there. We left after one drink and dined elsewhere. This was really disappointing and not indicative of their social media and advertising. Perhaps we were unlucky, but the customer service...
Read moreA nice old pub that has a lot of character. We saw that they $14 lunches so decided to try them and sit somewhere that was nice and warm. They did have an open fire place but you didn't need to sit near it to keep warm. Plenty of different seating for people to sit at and had a Beer Garden for warmer days. I had the Chicken Schnitzel with Diane Sauce and Vegetables. It was very nice but a little disappointed that the Carrot wasn't cooked properly and was hard, I did eat it but had to cut it into tiny piece's. The Broccoli and Corn were great. Husband had Steak with Chips, salad & Pepper Sauce. He did order it Medium but was cooked more on the well done but was still really nice. Chips were crunchy and yummy & salad was good too. I do think if you advertise $14 Lunches that you shouldn't charge $2 for sauce and the Vegetables cost $3. It seems normal to charge for Vegetables which is a shame as I would have them more often. It was very popular and did get a few people in for lunch but still plenty of room. We are visiting Mudgee from the Gold Coast and will differently let our friends know about this pub and would visit again when...
