I've eaten there about 10 times, I usually order the same thing - Vegetarian Pad Thai. Now the first one they made was outstanding, it was fresh, used lime, had a great blend of lightness and flavour. Great food.
Unfortunately the next 9 pad thai's have ranged from 'ok' to 'mediocre'. I don't know if they change cooks but the quality drop has been noticeable. They moved to lemon instead of lime, half of the time I couldn't even notice the coriander. The dish went from a vegetable/tofu & noodle blend to 90%+ noodles and a few tiny pieces of veges. Bland. Not that lovely flavour + lightness combo that a good pad thai is.
They do well in Murwillumbah because there isn't much competition. The food is a solid "good" but I am hoping they reach that "excellent" experience that I had the first time I went there.
Restaurants in this town are all very poor and they would all go out of business if they were based on the Gold Coast or an Australian city. Nam Yeng is a step above the others, but a lot of room for...
Read moreThis is an OK restaurant (I've been half a dozen times), but they seem to have cut back on the rice. We ordered rice for two for the princely sum of $3 and a little bowl came out. We ordered some more and got another bowl - same size, but a little fuller. We ate most of that too. We don't normally have to order more rice wherever we eat or here previously. When paying I suggested the rice was a bit small and was asked if we found other restaurants serve more rice. I said they did. I was then told, "We find Australians don't eat much rice." Is that racist? The lady asking seemed to be Australian so maybe not. Hmmmm I said that I'd be the one complaining about the rice in the review. I was asked if I would like the $3 for the second bowl removed. I said I'd still be mentioning the rice in the review so she may as well still charge me. She did! Shame to leave a reasonable restaurant with a "bad taste"...
Read moreWas excited to try this place after reading all the reviews but I was so disappointed! I ordered the no.48 Pad Let Mao spicy noodles with chicken and a coconut banana fritter. The noodles were not spicy at all but were overloaded with curry to the point it was unedible really. If a dish says spicy that implies chilli not curry! There were hardly any noodles either and the noodles that were in there were soggy and all broken up. There was heaps of sauce in the container and it was really oily which made everything very oily. When ordering I asked what vegetables were in it and when I opened it up there was a completely different combination to what I was told including several veg I don't like (which is why I asked in the first place!) The fritter was very doughy and the banana was till kinda hard so not very...
