Visited Wild Thyme for the first time today. Beautiful weather allowed for outdoor dining and, even being located alongside the main road, we enjoyed a reasonably quiet and uninterrupted lunch.
This venue was, for us, blessed with huge potential yet unfortunately fell short in several areas. To explain:
My wife ordered a flat white and rated the flavour as the best she'd had in months. However, the inch of froth on top somewhat spoiled the experience. This is a common mistake made in coffee shops and a flat white often arrives more closely resembling cappuccino.
I opted for a Chai latte and was unimpressed. It tasted almost like a mild mint tea, blanketed by the standard powdered topping. It was an odd concoction and nothing like the usual Chai latte I regularly drink. Additionally, we both ordered mugs yet received cups, so not sure if sizes are getting smaller or if this was an honest mistake. It wasn't the end of the world so I chose not to question it.
My wife ordered the Power Bowl and, although thoroughly enjoying it, did notice that there was very little broccolini in the meal, even though it was listed as one of the primary ingredients.
I had the same experience with my Smashed Avo selection. The menu made it sound hugely appealing as there was a host of different items in the meal, for a reasonable price. However, when my pickles consisted of two tiny slices, and my feta (supposedly an oversized serve as consolation for the out-of-stock halloumi) was also in short supply, I was somewhat disappointed. The base product, namely smashed avo on toast, with a couple of poached eggs, was robust in size and flavour and received my nod of approval. The eggs, especially, were delicious and rated by both my wife and I as the unexpected stars of our meals.
Side note - the hand cut chips were great and much enjoyed. The decent serving of aioli was also appreciated.
The service, however, missed the mark. Our waitress was prompt and professional yet exuded little warmth or personal touch. She never smiled and was merely 'going through the motions'. She had the service aspect well covered, it was the people side that was a little lacking. The other staff members we met, upon arrival and when ordering, were more approachable and easier to engage.
Overall, Wild Thyme provided a positive experience. The meals were of a high standard and, even when considering the aforementioned concerns, were flavoursome, well portioned and left us satisfied. The hot drinks had some issues and the service just needed a few more smiles. Would we return and eat there...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI arrived alto the cafe just as they were closing, which was not made evident at the front of the cafe with a sign like other cafes. So my daughters and I walked in and checked the menu. A kind staff member asked if we were just ordering drinks and I said yes thanks. There was no mention of the fact they were closing. I ordered 3 caramel iced lattes takeaway, even though we were asked dine in or takeaway! Now this is where the problem starts, the āgirlā making the coffees scuffed and sighed when she knew it was her that had to make the drinks. I know how to make a caramel iced latte and the way she put the caramel with the coffee was so wrong, they tasted awful and we threw them away after a sip! She was rude, had a cleaning spray product in the counter right where she was making our drinks too, first lesson in food and beverage, donāt have chemical need food/drink items. I was disgusted, and who ever the girl was you are so rude! Date we visited Sunday 26th May at around 1pm!!! To the owner/mgr, I recommend you advising staff to not scuff in front of a happy paying customer. I wasnāt rude in the slightest. And to not have cleaning chemicals on the front counter as contamination may occur. We will NOT be coming back and will be advising our coffee drinking friends, colleagues and strangers to...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePurchased 2 dirty chai lattes - one extra large which clearly states on the cup size that it comes with 3 espresso shots and one medium size with soy which states it comes with 2 shots. Not only was I charged $1 extra per espresso shot, I was short changed $1 (paid $20 and received $3.50 back). I advised the barista that I had been short changed and she gave me $1 back. When my name was called out, I went up to the counter to grab my takeaway coffees and they were so hot I was barbly able to carry them to my car without burning my hands. Once they cooled down a little, my partner said his coffee tasted like watered down weetbix juice. We opened up the lid and the colour was a very faint brown colour. He regularly orders triple shots and said it was the weakest coffee he had ever tasted. My coffee was as ordered but it also had a weird after taste which was not pleasant. It may have just been an off-day but we just felt like $15.50 for 2 coffees we didn't enjoy is quite a chunk of money to fork out especially considering we paid $5 for 5 espresso shots in both lattes combined and only...
