We live lives, bombarded by imposed urgency, manufactured problems, and deprived of ritual.

And yet, the diligent and observant among us can if we try, rebuild these quiet moments, these simple pleasures.

The morning cafe crowd at Camp Grounds developed during covid. Up and down Dowe St, carefully, respectfully, socially distanced we sat. Together, yet apart. That vital human connection outside our confines. The warmth of human generosity, and the exceptional coffee held so many of us through rough times. People would bring their own chairs.

Though people come and go, both community and solitude still exist in the Peel St Camp Grounds. I’ve overheard the rigorous training underway covering all levels of hospitality excellence.

So if you’re looking to make space and time for the warmth of interaction, and the healing opportunity to reflect, reset and recalibrate with friends, or alone amongst them, this might...

I was in Tamworth and in Coffee Heaven. Camp Grounds Cafe. The owner was the barista and he had a young server guy. I asked for a single origin espresso and the young guy said the two singles were for the cold press and they only had a blend for espresso. I said, i don't care, give me one single shot of each of the cold press coffees. The barista looked up then smiled, said to another barista, 21 grams at 5.1. Then brought me the first espresso. I asked for some soda water as i wanted to taste each at the same time so he brought me the second. Then we had a long chat about coffee. He owns his own machine and showcases different origins regularly. You can't find a better cafe owner for coffee. Of course he was about 35...

Used to love Camp Grounds at the old location great food and an inviting vibe. I was excited to try the new spot now that I’m back in town, but was really let down by the service. I stood at the counter clearly in view of two staff members, one female was displaying some cookies whilst the other stood there watching and chatting to her, i wasn’t greeted or acknowledged at all. I waited, thinking someone would say something, but nothing. Even a customer dining in seemed surprised I was ignored, i’d turned around and left.

Disappointing experience, especially after so many great visits in the past. Hoping the warm service that made the old place...

The Camp Grounds never ever disappoints. But today, I learned something new - they have a vegan Rueben Sandwich option. (Whaaaaaat??) To say it was amazing would be an understatement. It was the perfect toasted on the outside and juicy on the inside ratio. The fillings were so tasty and you’d not even guess it was vegan. The coffee, as usual, was incredible. Will definitely be back!
