We dined here last night - called during the day to make a booking for last night, and the girl on the phone was super rude. Anyway, fast forward to driving there, we live nearly an hour away and have twin babies that we brought. We were stuck in a very heavy traffic jam at fern bay and called to advise we would likely be about 10-15 minutes late, with fern bay being a black zone for phone reception the much nicer girl on the phone this time maybe didn't hear us completely, but confirmed it was all good, to see her when we got there, and that no one else was booked on our table afterwards so it was fine to just get there when we get there, and to stay as long as we liked. We arrived to the venue with next to no parking around as we didn't know that where you could normally park outside has now been turned into a building site (again, we aren't local to Newcastle), it took us about 10 minutes to do a loop around the block and find parking. When we arrived we apologized for the situation as we were now about 20 minutes late, the girl at the counter with very short hair was lovely, didn't have a problem with it and showed us to our table. When we saw our table didn't have high chairs we requested, we went back to counter to ask for the highchairs, another girl approached with long dark hair (believe she was wearing a heart Tiffany and co. necklace) was very rude, we assumed this was the girl we made the booking with, she said "you were meant to be here 10 minutes ago, so they were taken to another table", then pointed to a big pile of highchairs at the back of the restaurant, with our hands full with our twins at this point. And no one willing to help. Not sure why she made such a rude deal out of it, considering you had ample spares, and not to mention we were advised on the phone to take our time, as no one was booked after us. And I'll add too, that the restaurant was basically empty when we arrived so it's not like anyone was pressed for those high chairs or for our table. This isn't the first time we've eaten here, the food is great, but to arrive to that attitude, after we've just driven nearly an hour and had hands full with our twins (after trying to set it right that it was out of our control given the huge pile up at fern bay), it might...
Read moreSeriously, how good is Antojitos! I came here while in town for the weekend. I didn't know about the place until I drove passed and saw a few people waiting for their takeaway orders and noticing that there was a large dine in area too. After googling the menu, we knew we would like to try the spot out. We didn't have a booking but the wait was not long. We sat along the wall toward the back of the dining space. From here you can really see how Antojitos has made the most of the space. An old factory/warehouse type building. Despite the high ceilings and concrete floors, there wasn't an overwhelming echo which was nice. Food was exactly as we expected. Decent Mexican street food. Burritos, tacos, Nachos and Mulitas. We went for a burrito, tacos and mulita. The pork in the burrito and tacos was excellent. Cooked to perfection - I would highly recommend the pork in any of their dishes. Service was fast and efficient. No menus, you scan the QR code at the table to bring the menu up on your phone. When you know what you want, go up to the counter to order and pay and your food will come out in no time. In terms of service, it was limited to bringing food & drinks to the table, and clearing empty dishes, but keep in mind that this place is Mexican street food inspired, not 5 course restaurant. Overall, if you are after a casual, flavoursome good quality dinner that will be sure to fill, give...
Read moreFunky little Mexican restaurant that obviously really cares about what they are preparing.
The menu is extensive, and has a lot of traditional Mexican offerings that are hard to find here in Australia. The food was more of what you would find in a local Mexican restaurant - they just do it people like, and they do it really well!
The venue is awesome, reminds me of a Mexican chop shop in a warehouse somewhere in Tijuana. We came midday on a Monday but I am sure this place is pumping on a weekend.
If you're in the area, definitely go!! The prices are fair and the servings are generous. I have never received an order of guacamole, or Plato this generous for the price. Great value for money and your tummy will thank you too!!
No more complimentary table hot sauces, these are added to the order at an addition cost.
Also, the taco 'plate' that used to come with rice is no longer. Now just offering tacos ala carte.
The meat is still really good and flavourful and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the freshly fried, hot & salty corn chips and house made...
