A beautiful heritage Newcastle icon that are fortunate to have for live performances. However; itās time management considered the priority of maintaining a standard of behaviour among theatre audiences. The Boney M concert was marred by bad behaviour of a minority of people which became a continuous problem for security staff. Staff had to evict guests and regularly redirect some guests to the side passages so that the general audience could appreciate the performance. I felt embarrassed for the artists on stage. Itās time that management change policy about serving drinks ( particularly alcohol) during a performance. Many guests were up and down from their seats to go and purchase more drinks, with total disregard for blocking view of other patrons. There was an announcement about turning off mobile phones which was totally ignored by numerous people videoing the performance holding phones above their head to get vision. A wonderful experience to see Boney M but overshadowed by disrespectful patrons charged up with alcohol and bad behaviour. Security tried hard all night to keep the calm. The situation could have escalated if not for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe watched Dot and Kangaroo at Civic Theatre during our short stay in Newcastle and it was such a great show. When I booked it, I didn't realise that it was done by kids for the kids and it turned out to be an amazing performance! My 7 year old daughter enjoyed it immensely. She is lucky to see professional shows for children in Sydney on a regular basis and she said it was the best one she's ever seen! Well done to Hunter Drama and everyone involved!
We saw the Banksia cast - Ms Kangaroo played by Lucy Henderson was amazing - both singing and acting, Dot (Bodhi Beard) was full of energy and the whole cast was so engaged and did a great job! Special shoutouts to Sophie Evenden who played Echidna - I couldn't take my eyes off her moving on the stage, and, of course, Larry Lorikeet by Ruby Rooster and Platypus by Skye Saltoun were real stars! It's a classic very sweet story told (and played!) so well by children and for children.
The audience (I guess it was mainly families and friends of the cast - it was the first night) was so supportive and bursting with applause but mind you - I am a complete stranger and loved the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas recently at a matinee show but on the way out walking up the outside aisle, I decided to see how their emergency response was, had a hypotension episode and fell down. Please to say they scored 10/10. Some of the patrons also came to my rescue which I truly appreciated. My right hip and lower back decided they were not going to talk to me, so a wheelchair was required. All the ushers and the front house manager were excellent and extremely caring. They even got the lovely Gareth (backstage manager to wheel me over to the Crystalbrook Hotel where I was staying overnight, and where their wonderful staff took over. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Civic, thank you for your kindness and assistance. This theatre is one of the most beautiful in Australia and the show "The Woman in Black" was fabulous and definitely worth seeing. If you do have a medical emergency there, don't worry, you'll be...
