Bangkok Bay Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

We heard a new Thai had opened in Toronto a few days ago and wanted to try it out as we love Thai cuisine. We ate on the balcony which has stunning views over the lake. We are very familiar with Thai food from both Thailand and Sydney. The menu selection and prices were good. We had 4 main dishes. The first was Green Thai Curry chicken. This was very bland and milky. We were very disappointed as this is a classic dish and we expected more. 2nd: grilled prawns, calamari and mussels served with a bottled sweet chilli sauce. There was nothing Thai about this dish although the seafood was nicely cooked. It would have worked better with a tamarind style sauce. 3rd was sweet and sour fish. Fish was cooked nicely but again the sauce was underwhelming. Lastly was stir fry cashews with duck. This was excellent - much to our surprise, especially after the disappointment of the previous dishes. Very nice flavour. Food was by far the best Thai I have ever had! Not any places have soft shell crab on the menu and places I have seen are nowhere near as generous with their portion sizes. Neither of us could finish our meal.

Sat at a table on the balcony and it was absolutely beautiful! Amazing views of over the lake and very close to the jetty. We are already planning our next lunch there where we will take the JetSki over rather than drive.

Staff were amazing. Kind, well mannered and very attentive, bringing water and menus as soon as we sat down. Food was prepared fast yet still had amazing presentation.

Stumbled across Bangkok Bay Thai when we were at Lake Macquarie today. We were drawn to the restaurant by the lovely view from the balcony.

The views didn't disappoint and the food was even better! We had Thai Sausages, Spring Rolls, Thai Beef Salad, Pork Knuckle and Pad See Ew. Every dish we had was absolutely delicious and they didn't hold back on quality ingredients and flavours. They were very generous with their portions and the amount of meat they've given us. And even down to coconut drink having slices of coconut in there.
