Cleaver — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

I need to ask why this place is called cleavers? I associate a cleaver with butchers. I couldn’t even tell you if they serve products with meat. I’ve never bothered to look. Why? Because their muffins are so good. Fresh, moist and I imagine as healthy as a muffin could be.

The muffin menu changes constantly. I have never had the same one twice. The flavour comes from the fruit, so they take the care to disperse it throughout, even with sliced fruit, the slices carefully dissect the muffin through the middle to ensure when you break the top off, the muffin is still filled with flavour. I suspect these muffins are filled with wholemeal flour and wheat germ to give some nutrition to people like me, who maybe aren’t thinking about their health when they are hanging out at 5am wishing Cleavers were open as they need a muffin for breakfast. Their scrolls are also delicious! (When they make them).

Everything good here is hard to get. Why? Because it’s delicious, and when you make food that good apparently you only need to work until 12pm each day, as it’s all sold out. So...

This place is the best. Simple! I am not pretentious enough to critique coffee like other authors seemingly. My FW was exemplary. But what was better was the almond croissants. They are beyond bliss. I brought some hardcore hombres from the veteran community for brunch each day here. Then we brought more! These are people who survived on International Roast for years.
