We were looking for Italian for dinner, and they boast that their food is authentic from Rome to Venice. we have been to countless Italian restaurants through out Rome to Venice and home here in Sydney. The young waitress was pleasant and helpful . Really I should rank her a 5 out of 5 for service as for the food it was the worst Veal verdi I've ever had. The sauce looked rank on the veal full of flour lump not done correctly. The veal had no taste and hard raw potato đ„ and vegetables floating in oil, enough to give you a heart attack. The calamari was the skinniest calamari I've ever seen on a plate. Looked like it was packet frozen Calamari. This precinct of restaurants being on a very busy strip ,have the fresh fish at their door step. My dish was unedible. I had to sift through some fried carrots and mushrooms đ as I was starving. I told the young waitress it was sub standard food and she took it away . I was offered another meal which I chose a chicken and mushroom Spagetti meal. Once it was brought out I had only half of the meal as I was so turned off by the original meal I had lost my appetite. I was offered to have it put into a container to take home. Although I didn't due to staying in an appartment. Also my husband order steak Diane sauce for his steak. We had to ask for it a second time after it was served. They served it in a drinking glass instead of a jug or gravy server for the table. I rank this restaurants a...
Read moreWe had a delightful experience at Northern Star Cafe, largely thanks to Chloe, our waitress, who was incredibly friendly and personable. She made us feel very comfortable from the moment we were seated.
We all opted for variations of the $10 pasta special (Wednesdays), and each one was delicious. I personally had the boscaiola, which was great - packed with bacon and mushrooms and rich sauce. The special comes with a choice between spaghetti and rigatoni; however, two of us ordered rigatoni but were served penne instead. While we didnât mind at all, I would recommend that Northern Star mentions substitutions like this in the future, as this could be important to other diners.
For dessert, we indulged in the cheesecake and sticky date puddingâboth were absolutely divine!!! The gelato was another highlight, smooth and rich.
The atmosphere of the cafe is a bit outdated, but in the most charming way possible, very homey (in my opinion, as an Italian restaurant should be). The vibe was great, especially with the amazing little alleyway outside. Inside, the table layout was well thought out, with plenty of space between tables so that everyone had room to breathe.
Northern Star Cafe offers a cozy and enjoyable dining experience, with a few minor quirks that didnât detract from a lovely meal. Highly...

Instead of offering parmesan for my pasta, it was assumed, and my meal came drowned in the stuff. The bread I was given required tearing from the jaw in order to get a bite off. Another at the table ordered a burger. Not only did it arrive disassembled on the plate for the customer to put together, but the chicken wasn't a fillet or pattie but a few pieces of chicken meat. The burger would have been meat and bun if the other ingredients hadn't have been added for an extra cost. Fifteen dollars is not a fair price for chicken pieces on a bun.
