We had a memorable experience tonight at Parry St Garage. We had been there before and loved it, considering it one of the best restaurants in Newcastle. That was until tonight. We were allocated a 90 minute time slot because of COVID, and arrived on time. We were expected to leave at 7pm but didn’t get our food until 6.40pm even though we had ordered as soon as we got there 70 minutes earlier. The wait staff advised it was very busy, however that is hard to understand given a full waitstaff and only 50 customers allowed in a very large restaurant. The pasta was soggy, the arancini balls were soggy, the gnocchi was burnt. I raised this with the waitstaff who spoke to the manager and came back to me, offering a free round of drinks. I went and spoke to the manager myself, who told me that I should understand that he is taking this with a grain of salt as “it’s the first complaint that he has had since they reopened”. He then explained to me that he would deduct the cost of the food we had not consumed and that would be that. I went back to my table so frustrated and angry that I was shaking. He was so arrogant and rude. In summary, it was a lousy experience with a rude manager. I left unsatisfied and hungry but still for some reason out of pocket $88.50? We waited forever in a half full restaurant with a lot of staff in the kitchen and our only positive experience is that the sparkling water was bubbly. We will never return, which is a shame because it was...
Read moreA great place for drinks and anti pasto, but not a good experience for a couple looking for dinner.
We went on a Saturday night and despite making a booking weeks ahead, we had to sit at the bar. Not only is the bar uncomfortable to sit at as it's too high, but having to face the bar staff and not your dinner companion ruins the point of going to dinner.
The food was mediocre. My wife's veal was over cooked and almost too tough to eat. (Probably because our order was lost and they had to rush it out after waiting an hour for it) My pasta dish was good, but you can easily get pasta as good at any pub for about half the price.
On top of that, we were asked to hurry up and finish our food as our spot at the bar was booked for a later sitting. The only reason we took so long to finish our food was because they lost our order. (Hardly our fault)
The only positive was the cocktails, which were very good.
I'd consider going again for the cocktails but would not recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy dinner with...
Read moreLast weekend, I visited Newcastle for a short family trip. While the restaurant we originally planned to go was closed, so we had to search another one in the area. Parry St George was the one opened, and the choice literally made our day! We (4ppls) ordered Prawn pizza, 3 meats pizza, Roman Chips, Seafood Linguine, and 3 of tap lagers and it was around $103 (very reasonable price 🥹) Since the time was on happy hours, we got our pizza for half price, and tap beer for $8. While the food quality was well, what I remember most was the friendly service and warm smiles of the staffs. I felt the trip was worth it just because of them. Although we faced some train delays on the way home, the warmth and positivity from the team at Parry St George made the entire trip all the more memorable. As someone who works in customer service myself, it reminded me how powerful a kind attitude can be. Thank you...
