I can't overstate how disappointing my one (and only) experience at Vegos was. Apparently enough to motivate me in writing a Google review (something I've previously never felt the need to do).
I was already filled with trepidation when I saw the sign of this dubiously-titled establishment being erected not far from my house - most every vegetarian or vegan person I know can't take it seriously, due to it's unavoidable association with being used as a term of derision by seemingly every drunk uncle at a Christmas dinner ever.
In the spirit of peace and unity, I got past this initial unease to give the burgers at Vego's a go. After ordering a cheeseburger and waiting a considerable amount of time (around 20 minutes) for what is billed as "fast food", I took one bite and was instantly filled with seething, venomous anger. I was not in fact eating something prepared on site, or arguably even 'prepared' at all - I was eating a Fry's burger patty which can easily be obtained in the freezer section at Woolworths or Coles. As someone who knows how to make everything from vegan Borscht to Gado Gado, it was a slap in the face to pay to eat something that barely required heating up before being served to me. The bun was also toasted to blackened oblivion.
I was left baffled, not only by the brazen hoodwinking that was going on here, but also the seemingly frantic state that the enlisted charlatans behind the counter seemed to be in keeping up with the demand of heating up all these cheeseburgers. I would bet my golden spatula that the "chicken burger" on the menu is also just sourced from a Fry's box.
When The Kent has undoubtedly eclipsed a 'plant-based restaurant' (this place is definitely not a 'restaurant', restaurants cook food) at it's own game, you know things are grim. Go to the Kent on a Tuesday, they have a cheap burg deal. Or, better yet, buy a pack of 4 Fry's patties from Woolies. They're 6 bucks, sometimes even 4 or 5 on special. Add some of your own ingredients (sauerkraut and mustard is a personal fave) and you too can pretend like you are a high-falutin vegetarian chef. Heck, you could even open your own restaurant in the swank, up-and-coming district of Islington...
Read moreWow. Wow. Wow! I dont think words could even do this place justice but i will sure try. Everyone and i mean EVERYONE needs to experience this establishment- the food alone is something to be raved about but the customer service is even more so. I feel so privileged to have been able to come to newcastle on my travels and experience this establishment - the fact that they make all the patties themselves is outstanding - its the best I’ve EVER had you can taste the quality and the passion from the first bite.
I know I’ve written a novel to sing their praise but honestly you need to experience this for yourself and then you will know im not being dramatic in the slightest.
I just wish Vego was in every town - im envious of the people of newcastle. Dont sleep on this place.
Thank you team for your passion and overall vibe - its refreshing to have experienced the service you are providing - you do not see this passion often in the service industry. And the ultimate thank you for the amazing food...
Read moreMy experience at Vegos was terrible and the staff were very nice, I gave them a very high rating. So we went there with our friend last night and he just bought a vegan order of "daisies" and said that it smelled delicious. After we took a walk through the parking lot it became very apparent that the workers were very busy. I don't think we were successful at registering ourselves with them due to the crowded nature of the parking lot. We parked at the front of the lot, inside the parking garage. Here are the rules we had to follow: : No alcohol, just a little bit of anything, salt, maraschino cherries, and other fruit and flavors. These were all passed to us by our server." — To regain the feeling of the set of and consume said sweet treats: Dole Whip, which comes with 2 oz (57g) — Hot and Sour Guava Jam, one forkful (2 oz / 58g) — Mountain Dew Juice (one can, 2 oz / 58g), 24 oz (750ml)...
