We (group of 6- 4, 2 adults and 4 teens) dined here on a Sunday afternoon (5th of September 2021) after several people had recommended to eat here. The food was amazing but unfortunately our waitress was incredibly rude. We did not catch her name but she may have been the manager and told us she was Canadian. She messed up our order several times, bringing our daughters the wrong mocktails firstly and gave us a different cocktail to what we ordered, then my other daughter who ordered the fish bao never got her food while everyone else was eating, I mentioned it to the waitress and she rolled her eyes and told me it was coming. After another long wait and with everyone else finished, her meal arrived. No apologies. She then brought out an extra plate of pork which we hadn't ordered. It was clear she wanted us to leave, telling us the kitchen was closing then taking drink glasses away before they were finished. Upon paying, we double checked the receipt due to all the mistakes she had made during the meal. When we questioned about the two mocktails, she became very defensive. She kept interrupting us and repeating back to us what we ordered even though we were only trying to ask why we were told they were the same. When paying we were asked to let her know what we ordered, and once checking over the bill, she snapped that we had to tell her the amount we were paying and muttered under breath that she had already told us this which she had not. Our whole experience was ruined by her attitude, our inaccurate orders and mistimed meals all handled by her. Unfortunate for the business as we really enjoyed the food. We felt rushed the whole time and even before we had ordered anything, we felt her responses were short and impolite. We definitely would not recommend this place as long as she works here. We were ready to tell all of our friends how great this place was, but this experience has really...
Read moreLight Years in Noosa offers decent food, but the experience was overshadowed by poor service. Nice enough restaurant but doesn't live up to the hype.
We arrived for our booking and were passed by several staff before anyone acknowledged us. The waitress said she’d check our table but got distracted. She eventually returned to say the kitchen was behind and our table was still occupied, so we were asked to wait at the bar.
After 20 minutes, we had chosen everything we wanted to order, but no one followed up. We noticed a free table, asked if we could take it, and still waited another 5 minutes before someone half-heartedly began cleaning it. Frustrated and hungry, we ended up seating ourselves. When the waitress came over, she was confused that we didn’t want menus. Despite us explaining twice that we’d been waiting nearly 25 minutes and were ready to order, she tried to set the table first. I repeated that we'd like to order ASAP and she finally took our order.
The food was fine—around a 6.5/10. We ordered 6 dishes and it all came out quite quickly. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either. It leaned heavily on sauces rather than showcasing high-quality ingredients or standout flavors.
Service issues continued throughout the meal. We had to remind the waitress about missing drinks and ask a second waitress for water again as the first forgot to bring it. The waitress was so forgetful that she forgot to add the drinks to our bill, which worked in our favour.
To their credit, the staff were apologetic and offered a 10% discount, which showed recognition of the experience. With so many fantastic Asian fusion options in Noosa, I wouldn’t rush back to Light Years as a...
Read moreI really want to focus on the truffle mushroom dumplings (first picture) because they were sublime. You definitely do not want to miss giving these flavour bombs a go (unless you dislike mushrooms). They are sublime and a stand-out favourite of the 4 dishes we ordered. We started with the kingfish ceviche which we ate before I could take a photo. Kingfish is such a gorgeous fish on its own and the complimentary flavours of coconut spice made this starter delicious and fun. Then we went on to the mushroom dumplings, followed by fish and eggplant bao buns. These were good but I wouldn’t order them again - they didn’t stand out to me. Then we finished with duck pancakes. Very good. A note to the restaurant - servers really do need to be trained not to take plates away before diners have finished eating. I went to the bathroom and my daughter was in the process of making her last duck pancake when the server came over and picked up the plate, which still had a piece of duck and condiments remaining. Then, after she had already picked up the plate, she asked my daughter if she wanted the last piece of duck. I noticed this a few times myself - a little overly eager to remove glasses and plates before we were completely done. I admire the efficiency but this is a bit of a put-off. Easily remedied though. Overall, a thoroughly delightful experience and we sat indoors at the high alfresco style table so we could look out at the street. For us, it was the best seat in the house!...
