The Worst Restaurant in Perth!
No option to book online, so we rang on Friday night to book for Saturday. The staff asked us our preference of sitting inside or outside, but insisted the only time available was 6pm. We agreed to this, and the staff even repeated our booking "6pm tomorrow night for 5 people"
We showed up at 6 and were told there is no booking! It turned out they put our booking for the following Saturday.
While we were discussing this with the manager, we saw in their book for bookings the staff member had written our booking on the page for the following week and we were the only one on there. It appears that the staff put our booking in the wrong page otherwise why would have said only 6pm available if no one else has booked!
While we understand mistakes can happen, there was no effort made by the restaurant to assist or remediate their mistake. They refused to offer any alternative arrangement, except for 10% for a takeaway order. If we wanted takeaway, we wouldn't have come out, especially when my family live so far away and drove all the way to come here.
We attempted to negotiate an alternative (we were happy for a quick meal, we are not the kind of people to hang around all night) this was rejected, based on how many bookings were available in their special book.
Afterwards, the 5 of us were standing in the front of their restaurant holding a cake and flowers trying to find last minute alternative dining arrangements on a Saturday night. Unfortunately a lot of other places were booked out and had to have fast food for my birthday.
If they had made some effort to assist, then I would not have been upset. They did not make any attempt to help us, even after admitting they made a mistake. Just an insistence there is nothing they can do.
If they do not want online bookings, then they need to ensure accuracy when taking phone bookings. My birthday was ruined by the poor performance of the staff member.
This restaurant is careless and with no empathy at all. They also keep saying they would love to see their customer’s happy faces on instagram. How hilarious!
Thanks for ruining my birthday! My recommendation is not to come to this restaurant at all for your special occasion, as there is a risk you won't actually have any...

Read moreLove this place. The chef is a pasta and risotto enthusiast who has a clear love for his materials and how to get the most flavour out of them. If you like authentic, he can do authentic. But if you like it done with a passion and a twist, with years of tasting and experimentation to get something new, different and tremendously flavoursome, then that's why you come to Cariola.
Here's an example, he doesn't just use parmesan or pecorino cheese, he uses a blend of 4 or 5 cheeses to make a perfect mixture, that tastes just right; and he does that with all his ingredients, such is his dedication. He might put a dash of cream in his carbonara and he knows that it's inauthentic to do so; he also doesn't have any guanciale, but he's a pasta nerd and his combination of Italian cured pork within his "carbonara" is one of the tastiest in town.
So if you're after the old school traditional stuff, sure he can do it; but I would go there if you want something just a little bit different, done by a man who clearly loves what he's doing and is obsessed with the craft; a chef who knows that taste is the most...
