Sat 5th November: After my disappointing visit to this cafe a few months ago, I returned today seeking some redemption and a better Italian cafe experience.
I was not disappointed... The service was excellent and combining that with the great flavours and beautiful ambience, I am thrilled that we have another winner in North Perth.
The panini, arancini and prosciutto salad were first class. The flavours match the deliciousness that the eyes can see in the attached photos. The pistachio cannoli and coffee were also both excellent. I cannot ask for anything more.
Viva La Mortazza!
(The review below was written a few months ago. I suspect the cafe was going through teething issues. No complaints now.)

This new cafe (in an immaculate setting) has the potential to be a winner but our experience today was overwhelmingly ordinary. The coffee was ordinary - weak. The cannoli and bomba (sweets) came way too late when the coffee was already consumed - I had to remind them that we had ordered sweets. The cotoleta panini tasted ordinary much to my surprise because it looked great in the display cabinet. I wished I had been a little more conservative and traditional and ordered a mixed meat roll.
The cannoli and bomba sweets were first class. It’s a shame they took so long to arrive at our table.
I’ll try it one more time and hope things are better next time. There’s too many wonderful Italian cafes in North Perth...

I ordered the smashed avocado on toast, and it was a deconstructed disaster. The avocado was “pre-smashed” if you would. Cold, mushy, and had clearly been refrigerated for hours. It came with seasoned cooked tomatoes, WHICH THEY PUT ON THE PLATE ☠️…what?! This is chef 101, heat causes the cell walls to breakdown releasing water from inside the tomato…you ALWAYS serve grilled tomato’s in a separate bowl for this reason. Even an apprentice would know this.
So needless to say my plate was wet. Between the soggy tomato’s, mushy avocado and over vinegary poached eggs, my smashed avo breakfast was served on a puddle.
The service was…as described in other negative reviews that aren’t acknowledged by this restaurant “rude”.
Once again, location is everything. It’s great to see that this business has a lot of support from the Italian community. I on the other hand, would...
Read moreWent for a panini lunch on recommendation from a friend. Arrived at 12:30pm and cafe was fairly full. Found a alfresco table on the Venn Street side of the cafe. Ordered off a display cabinet. Settling for a “Continental” and very glad I did. The panini was excellent and as close to the ones available in rural Italy, well worth the AUD14.00 paid! Also ordered limoncello spritz ( which came with its own platter of nibbles - Ham, Mortedella, Ventricina, olives, cheese and pieces of forcaccia!) Quite a surprise! Wait persons were very pleasant and friendly. However, they must have been fairly new; as they got our orders mixed-up a couple of times but they were very contrite, apologetic and deserve to be forgiven. All in all, a very pleasant experience for a inexpensive lunch and Im sure I’ll be revisiting this...
