We stayed at Carn Brae for four nights to be together as a family leading up to our dad's funeral. We also held the wake there. It was the most exceptional of experiences in the most trying of circumstances. The hospitality of David and Kathy was remarkable - intuitive, gentle, funny and imaginative. Nothing was too much trouble. Carn Brae is historically splendid and yet manages to promote a warm, intimate feel. The house is full of curiosities and vintage pieces from a mish-mash of eras giving an eccentric edge. Staying there is low key and comfortable. We cooked some magnificent meals, using the formal dining room on one night and the delightful cottage garden outdoor setting on other evenings. This is where David serves his amazing (to die for) pizzas - straight from the biggest pizza oven I have ever seen that was built by David's own hand - when they open for their famous pizza nights and Sunday lunches. I cannot recommend Carn Brae enough for foodies, history buffs, any one who likes a darn good pizza or for anyone who is celebrating an event - even a...

We arrived in Port Pierie for an overnight stay and Carn Brae was the obvious choice for a quick (but delicious) meal. We ordered drinks and chatted with David, who was unsurprisingly friendly and accommodating based on prior posts and was an impeccable host. Although we had planned on take-away, the pizzas looked too good to leave in the box. Tasting them (the prosciutto and the margherita pizzas) did not disappoint. Light crisp crust, a little oven charring and just the right amount of delicious toppings. Hats off to David for his generosity and for creating such a fine pizza joint that would stand up well against the best of its big...

Carn Brae was a charming experience. We were visiting with local friends and shared a special occasion with them. The wood oven pizza was delicious although I would love to try some different toppings such as seafood. The service was good and very welcoming. The fabulous venue is being renovated and updated amenities will be great. There are a few trip hazards to get to the rear of the property so a little difficult for mobility equipment. I am looking forward to returning to this beautiful venue to see what's new next time I am in...

The best wood fired pizza we’ve had in a loooong while! I was desperate to try the mushroom pizza but the carnivore won and we shared a “house special” and garlic/cheese pizza both of which were delicious and perfectly cooked. Fresh fresh ingredients , crisp base, not oily and flavours to die for. All served on vintage china and in the beautiful gardens/terrace of the heritage property. Personal service and a great selection of local beers and wines.

What a great find in Port Pirie. Don’t be put off by the outside appearance. Just head down the side lane to find a great little gem of a pizza restaurant. Great pizzas, wonderful atmosphere, friendly attentive staff. Highly recommend Carn Brae Port Pirie, we will definitely return when next in town.
