In town on business. Beef capital of Australia. So steaks a plenty claim to be the best in this town. However, CocaBrew has won this award for us. Thanks, team, for a welcoming evening and good food. Had the rib on the bone.
Steak cooking, opinions, and perception are a fine line in this topic. I believe no sauce or gravy is required on a good steak. Just bring the meat.
Steak arrives (ordered medium rare) Good char crust, but viewing seen little juice weeping or pooling on the plate. Cut straight in. More medium than rare. That's ok. Back to earlier comment. Perception. And chefs view.
Love the taste of char, and got it. Sooo many grill or fire cooked restaurants do not nail this but promote the style. Big annoyance for me. Gotta taste that.
Value for price. Unbeatable. I've paid double for the same cut for a whole lot worse, In Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart. The service was great. Wine selection was a little light on. If going to carry a small range, boost the quality to reflect the meal quality.
A really generous side of a warm pumpkin salad came with the steak but didn't seem mentioned anywhere. This, for me, didn't match the steak quality. Sorry. Back yourselves in here and ditch it.
Tim, the chef, came out in the restaurant by chance, and he is all about the meat and its journey to plate. You can not buy that passion. Great guy and grateful to meet him and chat steaks. Made the night.
Best steak I've had in a while. So thank you, CocoBrew, and we'll be back as Tim's personal recommendation was the stand alone rib fillet. Gotta try it now. I will order that rare...
Read moreCoco Brew have one of the best lunchtime menus for Rockhampton and every time I´ve been in to eat the food has been very good, apart from this time. I had the pulled pork burger and it was a slimy mess and horrid which I did not eat. My wife had the salmon, when the salad came it was a dry bunch of lettuce leaves, nothing else! with no dressing as informed by an inexperienced waitress, I think they no longer do that dressing which is shown on the menu but we now offer a mustard and honey one instead, which was like mayonnaise thick and not a salad dressing at all. Asked do you have oil and vinegar then, told the chef said we only have vegetable cooking oil. Really! Such a shame as this was one of our favourite places to go for lunch. Went to pay and noticed the 1.6% card charged so elected to pay in cash and then noticed a 10% surcharge now being added to Sundays due to staffing costs. I think that´s possibly fare as if in Europe you´d be expected to leave a 10% tip at lunch, so look at it as a tip and any business has to make money or die. But please Coco Brew, do something about the dust on the till front, looks bad and the screen is not working so we can check the bill...
