Great Western Hotel — Restaurant in Queensland

Booked for a family celebration for a group of 16 people late July - all from out of town & none of us ever been here before. Staff suggested the Beer Garden & it sounded perfect - casual atmosphere with steak being the speciality. Got a call on the Thursday prior to the Saturday booking to say the beer garden is no longer available as they’ve taken a private function booking. Staff said we would be moved to ‘The Arena’ which was similar. Arrived, went to get drinks & there is 1-2 staff only at the bars. 1 servicing the private function IN ‘The Arena’ - there may have been other staff in the bar at the Beer Garden but we didn’t see that as it was closed off for the other private function we’d been told about….. and then 2 staff covering the public bar area. Staff member who called to move the booking advised they had been booked for 140 people on top of the private functions. Ordered meals just before 7:30pm. After chasing them several times they were ready at 8:55pm. My Medium rare steak came out well done. From the moment I stepped into Great Western Hotel, the Western style ambiance set the stage for a truly unique dining experience. Despite some initial confusion during the ordering process, the main event - a 350g Scotch fillet - more than made up for it. Cooked to perfection, the steak was succulent, flavorful, and precisely to my liking.

TWO HOUR WAIT FOR FOOD! My family and friends went to the Great Western for the Inflatable Adventureland night. The kids enjoyed the jumping castles but we waited for two hours for food. We ordered two kids meals, two steaks and two sides at 6:30pm and didn’t receive any of the food, kids meals included until 8:30pm. By the time food arrived the jumping castles were deflated and all of the kids were hungry, overtired and upset and it ruined the night. Completely unacceptable. If your wait time is over an hour you need to give people the courtesy of knowing. We would never have ordered knowing the kitchen was this backed up, and the food was honestly not worth the wait. The staff were apologetic but there was no communication about the extensive wait unless you approached the kitchen. I honestly don’t think I can justify giving the Great Western my money again.
