Fairbairn Bakery — Restaurant in Queensland

I went into this place and asked for a Steak and Kidney pie. I sat in store and grabbed a fork to eat it. It didn't taste like it had Kidney in it. So I dug around and did not find any at all. I took it back to the counter and the fellow said that as the top had been destroyed by me and that he can't identify it. That a steak and kidney has two stripes on it. I said that it did have two stripes and I then asked for a replacement, which he gave me. I then peeled the top off to see if there was any kidney in it. There wasn't! So I took it back to the counter and told him. He then said that it was probably a purêé. I said, no that's can't not a steak & kidney pie. That's false advertising. To which he started to say that they are responsible for the contents?? I got a refund and left the store. Best pies in Central Queensland?...

Really does look the part but unfortunately fell short of our expectations. Visited on Fri 12 April 24 at 12pm. Cabinets were partially filled, loaves of bread were deplenished. The server did not smile. Bought 2 coffees which were nice and hot. However the 2 plain beef pies were barely warm. Disappointing. The ham salad roll was not fresh. The cheese was munted and the tomatoes almost disintegrated. The salad was wet and the HAM discoloured. I had a few bites and discarded the rest, as with the pies we had. A waste of money for us and still left hungry. It wasn't busy. I did notice a sign up requesting staff. Years ago we would especially go to the Fairburn bakery at the other location, next to the noodle shop. It was Fantastic. We don't live in Emerald and drive in so we probably won't be back to that...

Stopped in for lunch. A variety of pies cakes and slices. Had a pasty, which was absolutely delightful and the missus had a potatoe pie, which she enjoyed. Temperature of pies was good, pastry was great(very picky about pastry) flavour and texture great. Bread on shelves, but wasnt all that concerned since lunch was our thing. Service was great, friendly, chatty, whilst getting on with the job. Could eat inside and out, we had a hot chocolate and coffe, which was up there in my top 5 and was brought to our table outside. Great place to stop in, well worth it for the food and service. Stop in and try the food and drinks....
